WannaCut | A Capcut free Alternative is Available ❗❗❗

Hi everyone, Gabriel here!

As you know, I’ve been working hard on WannaCut to create a lightweight, high-performance video editor that combines the speed and security of Rust (Tauri) with the flexibility of a modern interface.

I’m thrilled to announce that we are officially launching the Beta release for Linux! 🚀

We’ve been doing extensive testing, flattening bugs, and fighting the dependency boss fights (shoutout to OpenCV Linux libraries!). Today, I can confidently say that the packaging for the major Linux distributions is ready and working.

When the Beta drops, you will be able to install it natively via:

  • .deb (For Ubuntu, Debian, Pop!_OS, Mint, etc.)
  • .rpm (For Fedora, RHEL, CentOS)
  • Arch Linux package (.tar.zst / AUR)

What to expect from this Beta? The main goal of this release is to test performance, hardware acceleration layout, and stability across different desktop environments. Since it's a Beta, feedback from this community will be absolutely crucial to shaping the next features and core optimizations.

Thank you all for the patience and support. Get your video clips ready, because the cutting season is about to begin! 🎬🦀

P.S.: If you have any specific distribution tweaks or questions about the architecture, drop them in the comments below!
