How does Harkness (Exeter, Lawrenceville, etc) teach calculus?

Phillips Exeter, Lawrenceville and etc. are using Harkness method in teacher. For humanity subjects, I can imagine how that would inspire students to discuss and debate. How about subjects like Calculus or Chemistry? Are there more instructions than discussions? Just curious how that works.

What do you regret most about the D1 lacrosse recruiting journey?

I’ve been following the recruiting landscape for a while and watching families navigate the whirlwind of club circuits, showcases, tournaments, and early communication timelines, especially for those aiming at top-tier Division 1 programs.

For the players currently in college, recently committed, or the parents who have already made it through the gauntlet: Looking back, what do you regret the most?

Whether it’s:

- Waiting too long (or feeling rushed) to reach out to coaches
- Focusing too much on the wrong showcases or unneeded camps
- Neglecting the academic or cultural fit of a school just for the D1 label
- Burnout, specialization too early, or financial strain
- Handling communication or film the wrong waypoint

What advice or hard-earned lessons would you give to families just starting to dive into the top D1 recruiting pipeline today? What do you wish someone had pulled you aside and told you on day one or in the middle of it?

Appreciate any insights, horror stories, or words of wisdom you're willing to share!

Advice for PG year and its process

With 5-in-5 rule, the roster size and recruitment is likely getting harder. Can anyone walk through the process of going to post-grad year? How would the conversation go and at which point we bring up the possibility of PG year?

Say when September/October comes, if there aren’t attractive offers, should we bring up the possibility of PG year with club coach or college coaches? Should we wait until end of junior year to mention?

If we decide going for the PG year, should we attend the showcases at the current grad year or the target PG grad year?

Welcome any advice and thanks in advance.

SAT score of a typical Ivy League recruits

Heard Ivy League coaches and others said they are looking for high AI (academic index) combining high GPA and high SAT. Sure, best school demands top athletes and top students. Just wonder how high they need to be? What are the usual typical GPA or SAT for those admits are? Have you heard really good elite players who get conditional offers with a set SAT scores to meet? And what are those? Interested in data for the recent data say ~5 years. Pretty sure there are exceptions but want to set realistic expectations what to work towards in the classroom.

Best in Class summer vs fall vs winter

For Best in Class showcases, there are summer fall and winter sessions. Are all of the similarly selective? Or one is more elite and competitive than the other?

If there is a choice to choose one of them, which one should we go? Any advice?

This is for boys rising freshman and rising sophomore.

When to wear club team helmet vs high school helmet?

For club teams playing in some tournaments, I have seen people wearing their high school varsity team helmets. I guess for showcases as a team. Is there any best practice when to wear club team helmets vs wearing varsity team helmets?

As a freshman preparing for upcoming recruiting season, I see IL scores and ratings. Are top D1 coaches mostly use that to draw their majority of recruits?

I know everyone would say they evaluate from all angles, watch the films, talk to top club team
coaches, attend top level showcases and etc. But time and resources for coaches are limited, I can’t imagine they really watch all the films boys sent to them. They must be doing some filtering. I thought as a human, I would go for rating and ranking plus trusted recommendations.

Ask another way, how many top D1 spots are from those without a IL score or rating.
