hey! has anyone ever gotten their passport stolen abroad and ended up getting it back?
i had my bag stolen in madrid last month. i had money in cash and some valuable belongings but most importantly my passport. i reported it to the police and to my embassy in spain in order to get an authorization to return home the next day.

i was wondering if anyone's ever had a happy ending in a situation like this, ie someone found it and returned to the police? i heard that passports are valuable in the black market. but even a cancelled one?

i have a friend in madrid who could pick it up for me if found which i really think helps.
