Logline: Taking place in present day and 1969, two south side families struggle to cope with the growing racial tensions in the Second City.
In Chicago and many other major northern cities, a bizarre thing happened during the 40’s through the 60’s: The White Flight.
During the great migration, many black southerners moved to major northern cities looking for a better life. Once they arrived and were forced to live in certain neighborhoods, the white people in those neighborhoods all moved to either the outskirts of the city or the suburbs instead of trying to coexist with their new neighbors.
In Chicago, cops, firefighters, and city workers all have to live within the city limits. I grew up in the most southwest neighborhood in the city as a result because my grandpa was a firefighter.
In this script, I wanted to explore both the act of The White flight itself and the repercussions of it.
I am more than willing to exchange scripts with anyone to receive feedback on my story.
