I have a 5 month old. Previously a great sleeper in bassinet in our room, hasn’t fed through the night for a couple of months and was easy to resettle with a couple of pats or sometimes a dummy replacement (doesn’t always need it to sleep). We’ve been putting him down awake (otherwise drowsy) for weeks and he would put himself to sleep, generally only a little bit of fussing. We moved him into his cot in his own room 2.5 weeks ago. I think this coincided with his version of the 4 month sleep regression. It’s gone okay however he is so much harder to resettle now, and if it’s after 4:30am he just seems to protest until we eventually get him out of the cot. He will grab onto us when we place a hand on his chest. I know it’s not hunger as he will immediately settle in our arms. He is also waking at inconsistent times (and has slept through once or twice since the transition of course when my husband has had the monitor lol). We have no success in transferring him back in either. The thing is he only wakes once, maybe twice so I know this isn’t bad in the scheme of things however we can’t seem to resettle him during the night, he can’t seem to self soothe (I’ve watched him during the night on the monitor) even though he can fall asleep independently at the start of the night. We tried intervals however the check ins just made him madder and I don’t think I am brave enough for total CIO, I’ve tried tweaking WW with no success and environment doesn’t seem to be the issue. The last week and a half, cot naps have become impossible and it just feels like we are going backwards and the only decent naps are now contact naps. Do I contact a sleep consultant or will we be wasting our money? Will he grow out of this? Everywhere online says the cot transition should only take 1 week, 2 weeks tops but I feel like we are almost going backwards. Any help would be appreciated :)
