I'm considering going into photography as a hobby/casual. I don't own, and never have owned a camera before, but am considering ones that would last years and cover my needs. I'm leaning towards something a bit simple, nothing too recent (so a model that's from at least the past 7-10 years).

I'm also on a budget; no more than $700 USD for one that is never used, and half that for refurbished. I'm no expert, but always have had the urge to go into it. Also, what are the benefits and downsides of cameras that are mirrorless or mirrored? I've done some research, but I don't want to be tossing away money for nothing, or for too much.

Also, are refurbished cameras worth it, or do they stop working rapidly (within months, a few years)? I'm leaning towards one that would last me several years for casual, non-professional photography.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, I know this post may be typical, but I need some input here. Currently, I don't own a MacBook and am looking to get one for next year. I'm a Poli-Sci major, so regarding education purposes, it'd be extensive research, essay writing, power-point creation, and possibly using some softwares to run statistical data (as per the classes). I think Stata may be the program?

Cost is a big factor for me, I don't want to be over-spending, and I'm no Elon Musk in terms of wealth. I've never used a MacBook, but have had an iPad for a while. I rarely game, but I do watch a lot of TV shows. I'm hoping to have a computer that lasts me 4-5 years, if not more. I'll also be spending some time abroad in a few years---I'm not sure if this info is necessary, but just trying to paint a picture of what would work best for me. I would also be using this computer for some work/internships over the next several years, if things go well with it.

So, which model should I go for?

Also--is the 256 or 512 data storage preferred?
