Did the maths on university costs for my kids and I'm genuinely shocked!

So I couldn't sleep last night and ended up doing the maths on what university will actually cost when my two kids are 18.

Current fees: £9,250/year

Current maintenance loan: ~£9,000/year

Total debt per kid: ~£55k (before interest)

BUT - fees go up with inflation. By 2040 when my eldest turns 18, we're looking at £83,000 in student debt. Per child.

That's £166,000 in total student debt for my two kids.

I know student loans get written off after 30 years but still - the idea of them starting adult life £83k in the red before they've even had a job is mental.

Am I overreacting? Is anyone else actually saving to help with this or are we all just accepting that this is the new normal?

And if you ARE saving - how much? I've no idea where to even start.
