Speedrunning is a niche interest which inherent does not attract mass appeal

Games should not be designed for speed runs if it wants to attract mass appeal. Speedruns are ONE way to play a game that interests a niche group of players. It should not be THE way to play.

None of the most successful games that have a wide player base designs their core game loop around speed runs. Games that have an active speedrunning community are games that are already designed well enough to make someone want to replay the game.

Games should NOT rely on speed runs to make a game replayable. The core gameplay should be good/rewarding enough to make a someone want to replay it.

To make matters worse, designing your game’s leaderboard to revolve solely around speedrunning to force players to replay a level/rift/mission/dungeon/etc is LAZY game design and is glaringly obvious that the development team recognizes that players have no other reason to play anything more than once.

In short: you can NOT make your game revolve around a feature that is inherently niche by definition and then wonder why your game does NOT have mass appeal.

MoCo needs loot drops to succeed

If any of yall have played Destiny, MoCo greatly resembles foundational aspects of that game. Looking back, the thing that kept me playing the game was Raids with loot drops that gave you “Exotic” tier weapons/armor with interchangeable “perks”/abilities. Cores are a start, but there’s so much room to grow on things that can be attained from drops.

Players want to be able to customize every little aspect that they are allowed to. It’s part of the fun of the game. It’s why a lot of people like MoCo v1 with all the interchangeable parts.

The game needs to shift the core game loop away from grinding XP and doing speed runs, and instead gear it towards character customization and building up power/strength of their character(s) in a meaningful way that DOES NOT get reset every month.

Imagine if clash of clans made you reset to Townhall 1 every month? No one would continue to play/return to the game. The players keep playing to continue building up the strength of their base.
