Night Shoot San Diego Area
Hey y’all,
Is the BLM in Jamul open for night shooting after fire season? I can’t get a definitive answer if night shooting is even legal on BLM like that or if I have to go all the way out to Ocotillo. Thanks.

Roughly 3.3k with MIL discount. It would be my first tube so I kinda want to go for a “buy once, cry once” option. I’m aware budgets may vary for different people but this seems great for the price. My budget is 3.5k. I’m open to any suggestions you all may have for where to shop. Thanks.
Hello all,
Long story short, I’m looking to buy my first pair of NVG’s for occasional recreational shooting with family and friends. Currently active duty MIL and have had countless hours under a WP PVS-14 and I would like to duplicate that experience in a more forgiving environment. The unit I would like to get would only be taken out on the occasional night shoot trip, which I can’t confirm, would be anymore than once a month. Don’t have any friends that have the tism as bad as me to convince their wives to let them get this piece of kit so training with a group outside of work is not really an option.
All I am asking, is this $4,000 WP PVS-14 really the necessary addition to my prepared civilian collection or would I be better off putting that cash towards ammo or literally anything else, based on the fact that I would only be using it at most once a month. I have the cash to pay for it 3 times over comfortably without any major lifestyle change. I think I just have a problem with outright spending 4k on something I can’t immediately own, so I just put it off.
This seems like more of a question for a financial subreddit but I thought I would reach out here first. Anyone else here have a similar situation? Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.
Just a little background about me…I am currently serving in a line company as an 03 and have been doing so for the past year and a half. My wife was diagnosed with POTS and Lyme Disease in 2021, enlisted in the fall of 2024 for the health benefits and steady pay. 2 months ago, she was diagnosed with AAG. Long story short, she requires intensive therapy and home care provided by me when I am home. All of this led to her being completely disabled to the point where even walking and or a hygiene routine independent from me is out of the picture. My command has been very accommodating to my situation, however, there is only so much they can do besides letting me skip out on non essential events so that I can care for her. It should be noted that she is enrolled in EFMP as well but have reached a point where they cannot do much more. At this stage, they have reluctantly brought up the option of a hardship discharge so that both the needs of the Corps and my family are met. I worry that due to my wife’s health, I would not be able to make any future deployments since there really is no one else but myself to take care of her.
I have read that it can be classified as an honorable discharge since I have no negative paperwork or discrepancies on my record. At the end of the day, I do not want to quit on this thing. I love being a Marine but I love my wife so much more. If I choose the hardship, we would be without healthcare for an unknown amount of time and that is just not something I’m willing to accept.
I wanted to get on here and ask if there is somehow a way for me to get FAP’d out until June 2027, my two year mark, to where I can lat-move to a less high tempo MOS. I’ve spoken with a few supply NCOs I work with and they speak highly about the field they chose. Being able to be home more often and tending to her needs instead of weeks and weeks of field ops seems much more appealing given the circumstances.
At this point, we are concerned not only for her health, but just the financial and mental toll not being immediately employed would take on us, given that she is constantly requiring physical therapy on top of IVIG infusions which are not cheap.
Essentially, should I even try to put in a lat move package at this point in my career or start over somewhere less demanding?
We would appreciate any wisdom that comes our way,
God Bless.
