Would you give up 5 + 7 for Caleb Wilson in a 9-cat dynasty?

Would you give up 5 + 7 for Caleb Wilson, or 7 + 8 + Sharpe?

I’ve posted a few times about my rebuild around Wemby and I’m back again because the manager with 1.04 / Caleb Wilson seems pretty open to moving him.

We’ve actually agreed that this first trade is doable:

Me:
Pick 5
Pick 7

For:
Pick 4 / Caleb Wilson

So I could get Wilson, but I’d obviously be giving up the chance to take two swings at 5 and 7.

I was also considering sending him this before committing to the pick swap.

Me:

Pick 7
Pick 8
Shaedon Sharpe

For:
Caleb Wilson

This is probably the one I’m more interested in because I’d still get to keep pick 5.

For context, my roster:

Guards

Isaiah Collier
Shaedon Sharpe
Fred VanVleet
Jrue Holiday
Buddy Hield
De’Anthony Melton
Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Forwards

Kon Knueppel
Kawhi Leonard
DeMar DeRozan
Tobias Harris
Julius Randle
Nikola Jovic
Ryan Dunn
Carter Bryant
Ziaire Williams
Rasheem Fleming

Centers

Victor Wembanyama
Zach Edey
Isaiah Stewart
Steven Adams
Jackson Hayes

I really love the idea of Wilson + Wemby as the foundation of the rebuild, so I’m definitely tempted to make a move for him.

My hesitation with the second deal is giving up 7 + 8 + Sharpe. I like Sharpe and still think there’s plenty of upside there, but I also don’t want to offend bro.

On the other hand, if I do that deal I’d still have pick 5, and I really like the look of Acuff and Mikel in that range. I especially love Acuff, but I honestly don’t know which one I’d rather take at 5.

So I’m basically looking at:

Wilson + Acuff/Mikel

vs.

Sharpe + picks 5, 7 and 8.

Would you guys do 5 + 7 for Wilson, or would you rather keep the picks?

And would you prefer 7 + 8 + Sharpe for Wilson while keeping 5, or is that too much?

If you wouldn’t do either deal, is there another offer you think I should send this manager? He’s open to picks-only deals, so I’d ideally like to keep things fairly clean.

I’m rebuilding around Wemby and don’t expect to contend immediately, so I’m happy to be patient with these guys. Just want to make sure I’m not overpaying for Wilson while also not missing the chance to add another potential cornerstone.

What would you offer for pick 1.01 in a 9 Category Dynasty.

What would you offer for the 1.01 in a 9-cat dynasty?

The owner of the 1st overall pick has said they’re open to trading it, and I’m interested in seeing what it would take to get it.

I’m rebuilding around Wemby and currently have picks 5, 7 and 8, so I’m trying to work out what a fair offer would look like. The other owner is also in the middle of a full rebuild, so I’m guessing they’d probably prefer a young player and/or high pick rather than an older veteran.

My roster:

Guards

Isaiah Collier
Shaedon Sharpe
Fred VanVleet
Jrue Holiday
Buddy Hield
De’Anthony Melton
Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Forwards

Kon Knueppel
Kawhi Leonard
DeMar DeRozan
Tobias Harris
Julius Randle
Nikola Jovic
Ryan Dunn
Carter Bryant
Ziaire Williams
Rasheem Fleming

Centers

Victor Wembanyama
Zach Edey
Isaiah Stewart
Steven Adams
Jackson Hayes

The main offer I’ve been thinking about is NAW + pick 5 for 1.01.

NAW had a really good season last year and I think his value is probably pretty high right now, but I’m not sure his prime really lines up with my timeline. I don’t expect to contend immediately, so I’m wondering if this is a good opportunity to sell high on him and turn him + a high pick into another potential cornerstone next to Wemby.

I’m not sure if NAW + 5 is too much, too little or about right though.

I’d also be interested in whether there’s someone else on my roster you’d target instead. I’d ideally like to keep this pretty clean rather than throwing 3-4 players/picks into a massive trade.

If I managed to land 1.01, who would you be targeting there in a 9-cat dynasty?

What would you guys offer for 1.01 from this roster?

Looking for some advice on the guards in the 5-10 range in this year’s draft

I’ve made a few posts recently about my rebuild and have been running some ideas past people about the best guard fits for my team, but I wanted to make another post specifically looking at the 5-10 range and get some opinions on how people would rank these guys in a 9 Cat dynasty league.

I’ve got picks 5, 6 and 7 this year and I really want to make the most of them. I’m rebuilding around Wemby, so I’m trying to find guys who can potentially become legitimate cornerstone pieces alongside him rather than just drafting based on positional need.

The guards I’m mainly looking at are:

Keaton Wagler
Mikel Brown Jr
Darius Acuff Jr
Kingston Flemings
Braden Burries

I’ve also been semi interested in Morez Johnson Jr, with Steinbach also being someone I’m keeping an eye on if he’s available.

At this rate I think I’m actually a little more interested in Morez than Steinbach, especially as a potential pivot if I decide not to go guard with all three picks.

At the moment I’m probably most unsure about Acuff.

Towards the end of last season I thought I really liked the look of him and was starting to think he could be a really good fit for what I’m trying to build. He has a pretty high ceiling as a creator and the idea of having a guard who can potentially create his own shot and run an offence next to Wemby is really appealing to me.

But after seeing him in Summer League and reading more of what people have been saying about him, I’m starting to question it a little bit.

The concerns around his size/length, defence and whether he’ll be able to consistently stay on the floor at the NBA level are obviously things I need to take seriously.

I understand that Acuff is probably one of the higher ceiling guys in this range, but I’m wondering how much of a boom or bust situation he actually is.

Is the bust potential genuinely bad enough that you’d be worried about taking him at 5, or is it more a case of him having a lower floor than some of the other guards but still having a pretty good chance of becoming a quality NBA player?

I’m also trying to work out how Wagler, Mikel, Acuff and Burries compare to each other in terms of ceiling and floor.

One thing I probably should mention is that I don’t expect to contend immediately. I’m pretty committed to the rebuild and I’m happy to give these guys a few years to develop if I think the talent is there.

That’s part of why I’m starting to look a little more closely at someone like Wagler.

If he’s a guy who needs a bit more time to develop before reaching his ceiling, I’m not necessarily bothered by that. I have the time for these guys to grow, and I’d probably rather take someone with a really good long-term development path than someone who is slightly safer right now but has a lower ceiling.

So I’m interested in how much people would actually value development runway in my situation.

For example, if Wagler has a higher chance of becoming a really good NBA player in 3-4 years but takes longer to get there, does that make him a better fit for my rebuild than someone who might contribute more immediately?

I don’t really want to just know who people think will be the best NBA player either. I’m more interested in how they project for 9 Cat dynasty, and what their situation could look like in terms of team placement, teammates and opportunity to actually develop into a bigger role.

For example, who has the best chance of becoming a legitimate primary/secondary creator?

Who has the safest floor in terms of actually sticking in the league?

Who has the highest upside if everything goes right?
And who has the most room to grow based on where they’re likely to land and who they’ll be playing alongside?

Then there’s the other side of it with Morez.

I’m just not sure I love the idea of coming away from the draft with three guards straight away, especially when I have the time to let a big like Morez or Steinbach develop alongside Wemby. At that point I think I’d be more inclined to diversify a little and take a swing on one of the bigs, assuming I still like their long-term upside.

I actually think Morez could be a really interesting fit next to Wemby long term, so I’d be pretty comfortable pivoting to him if the value is there. I’m just not sure whether I should be prioritising another guard who has potentially higher upside instead.

So I’m basically stuck between addressing the biggest weakness on my roster and just taking the best player available.

I’m obviously rebuilding around Wemby and I do need another long term guard, so I don’t mind taking some risks with these picks. But I also don’t want to end up forcing myself into taking three guards just because I feel like I need guards.

At the same time, I don’t want to play it too safe either and end up looking back in a few years thinking I passed on someone with legitimate star upside because I was worried about the bust potential.

So I’m basically trying to find the balance between floor and ceiling, while also considering that I actually have the luxury of time with this rebuild.

I want cornerstone guys who have a realistic chance of becoming really good dynasty assets alongside Wemby, but I also don’t want to take three guys who could potentially just bust out of the league or never really develop into meaningful fantasy players.

So if you had picks 5, 6 and 7, how would you approach it?

Would you be comfortable taking something like Acuff + Mikel/Wagler + another guard, or would you make sure you come away with Morez if he’s available?

And between Wagler, Mikel, Acuff, Flemings and Burries, who do you think has the best combination of:

Ceiling
Floor
Upside
Development potential
NBA role
9 Cat fantasy value

I’m also interested in what comparisons people would make for these guys. Not necessarily direct playstyle comparisons, but more so what their best-case and worst/case outcomes look like.

Basically, if everything goes right, who do you think these guys could become, and if things go badly, what does the other end of the spectrum look like?

I’m trying to make sure I don’t overthink this and miss out on a really high upside player, while also not completely ignoring the potential bust cases.

With three picks in this range I feel like I have a really good opportunity to add some important pieces to the rebuild, and because I don’t expect to contend straight away, I’m happy to be patient with the right guys. I just want to make sure I’m using that time on players who actually have the potential to become cornerstone pieces.

Looking for some advice on my rebuild and how to approach picks 5, 7 and 8

Just wanted to make another post/update on my rebuild because I’ve been thinking a lot more about what I want to do with my three picks this year.

I’m in a 9 Cat dynasty league and I’m rebuilding around Wemby. I traded Bradley Beal and Anthony Davis last season for Shaedon Sharpe and two firsts, which has left me with picks 5, 7 and 8 this year.

I think I’ve actually reached the point where I’m leaning towards just holding all three picks rather than trying to move them or package them with someone. I was recently offered Michael Porter Jr for pick 7, which I’m still considering, but at the moment I’m leaning towards keeping the pick. I like MPJ, but I’m pretty committed to the rebuild at this point and I think adding another young player through the draft could be more valuable for me long term.

The problem is I have absolutely no idea what direction I want to go with the picks lol.
My backcourt is probably the biggest area of need long term, so my initial thought was to just attack that with the draft.

At the moment I’m thinking something along the lines of:

5 - Acuff
7 - Mikel Brown / Wagler
8 - Flemings

I really like the idea of adding three guards who could potentially develop into creators, especially because I don’t really have a long-term answer at PG outside of Collier.

But at the same time, I’m starting to wonder if I’m just forcing myself into taking guards because it’s the biggest hole on my roster.

I’ve also been pretty semi interested in Steinbach, and Morez Johnson, and if one of them is still there at 8 I’m not sure I’d be comfortable passing on them just because I’ve already taken two guards. (potentially Mara even)

So I’m basically stuck between addressing the biggest weakness on my roster and just taking the best player available.

For context, this is what my roster currently looks like:

Guards

Isaiah Collier
Shaedon Sharpe
Fred VanVleet
Jrue Holiday
Buddy Hield
De’Anthony Melton
Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Forwards

Kon Knueppel
Kawhi Leonard
DeMar DeRozan
Tobias Harris
Julius Randle
Nikola Jovic
Ryan Dunn
Carter Bryant
Ziaire Williams
Rasheem Fleming

Centers

Victor Wembanyama
Zach Edey
Isaiah Stewart
Steven Adams
Jackson Hayes

I’m expecting to have to make a few cuts to fit the rookies in, and at the moment the guys I’m most likely to move on from are:

Josh Green
Buddy Hield
Bruce Brown
Ziaire Williams

Although I’m still not completely sure about Hayes or Dunn either, depending on how the draft plays out.

I’m also still trying to move some of the older guys, but I’m not really interested in selling them for the sake of selling them. I’ve had conversations around Jrue, Fred, Kawhi, Randle etc. but I feel like I’m better off just holding if the return isn’t actually worthwhile.

So I’d be interested to hear what you guys would do with these picks.

If you had 5, 7 and 8 on this roster, would you be comfortable going Acuff + another guard + Flemings, or would you take someone like Steinbach/Mara/Morez if they’re available at 8?

And am I overthinking the positional stuff? I’m rebuilding, so realistically I probably shouldn’t care too much about having three guards from the same draft if I genuinely believe they’re the best long-term players.

Would also be interested in what you guys think about the MPJ for 7 offer. I’m leaning towards keeping the pick, but I’d be interested to hear if people think I should be taking MPJ and continuing to go younger through other moves.

Basically just trying to make sure I don’t fuck up three pretty valuable picks by getting too cute with positional need lol.

Looking for some advice on my rebuild and how to approach this year’s rookie draft

I’m in a 9 Cat dynasty league and I’m fully committed to rebuilding around Victor Wembanyama. Last season I decided to fully commit to the rebuild and traded Bradley Beal and Anthony Davis for Shaedon Sharpe and two first-round picks, which has left me with picks 5, 7, and 8 in this year’s rookie draft

Current roster

Guards

Isaiah Collier
Shaedon Sharpe
Fred VanVleet
Jrue Holiday
Buddy Hield
De’Anthony Melton
Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Forwards

Kon Knueppel
Kawhi Leonard
DeMar DeRozan
Tobias Harris
Julius Randle
Nikola Jovic
Ryan Dunn
Carter Bryant
Ziaire Williams
Rasheem Fleming

Centers

Victor Wembanyama
Zach Edey
Isaiah Stewart
Steven Adams
Jackson Hayes

I’m at the point now where I’d like to move a few more of my veterans to keep the rebuild moving, but it’s been pretty hard getting fair value for guys like Jrue, Fred, DeRozan, Kawhi, etc. At the moment it feels like I’m better off holding than selling them for less than they’re worth.

Because of that, I’m putting a lot of thought into this draft. From what I’ve seen, most of the top guard prospects should still be on the board around picks **5-8,**whereas the elite forwards will probably all be gone. My backcourt is definitely the area that needs the most long-term help, so I’m leaning towards taking guards, but I’m not sure if that’s the right approach or if I should just draft whoever I think is the best player regardless of position.

The only trade that’s really gone anywhere so far is Jrue Holiday for the projected 14th overall pick. I’m tempted because it gives me another first-round pick and another young piece, but I’m not sure if that’s enough for Jrue. I was hoping someone like Steinbach, Mara or Yaxel Lendeborg might still be there at 14, but I honestly have no idea if that’s realistic or if they’ll all be gone by then.

So I guess I’m just looking for some outside opinions. If this was your team, what would your plan be? Which guards would you be targeting around 5-7? Would you be trying to move veterans for picks, or just be patient until someone is willing to pay proper value? Any advice is appreciated.

One other thing I’m trying to plan for is roster space. My IR is already full, and once the season starts I’m probably going to have to cut a few players to make room for my rookies and any waiver pickups.

At the moment I’m leaning towards dropping Josh Green, Buddy Hield, Bruce Brown, and Ziaire Williams, but I’ve also considered moving on from Jackson Hayes or even Ryan Dunn instead. I’m not completely sold on who the right cuts are, so if anyone has thoughts on that I’d be keen to hear them as well.
