[Guides] How to Solo Mega Garchomp & Lunala & Common DPS Mistakes

How to solo Lunala
How to solo Mega Garchomp
Common DPS Mistakes

Mega Garchomp is already out for Aug12th-Aug18th.
Lunala will be out from Aug19th-Aug25th.

The Mega-Garchomp guides currently use Kyurem Black/White Routes with videos ranging from using a single level 35 KW to full sized parties. The two active guides cover extreme (no weather boost), windy weather. Non-Kyurem routes are in progress (shadow mamoswine angle)

Windy weather boost was originally going to be left out however due to Garchomp learning the frustratingly strong Breaking Swipe, it was created as a separate category due to requiring survivability management. (dodging doesn't cut it)

Lunala currently has NDW routes while our team continues to work on crafting non-NDW routes. Non-NDW routes exist through the use of Shadow Darkrai, Shadow Gengar, Shadow Hydreigon, Mega Gengar, etc. Some may requires blade boost.

Common DPS mistakes highlights 3 easy to fix adjustments while raiding!

As always we try to include Budget, Semi-Budget and Full-size video proof for these raids. If no budget vods are available, we provide a proof of concept VOD where the TTW is at least 7% faster than what is necessary.

The logic is: The stat difference between Lv40 & Lv 50 is 5%, hence setting a 7% TTW difference to mirror 7% DPS difference serves as a generous proof of concept upper bound. Moreover, 5% increase in base-stats does not automatically imply 5% more damage by logic of breakpoints.

[Guide-SoloRaidArchive] How to Solo Azelf

The archive team is starting out an initiative to write guides for how to solo live bosses; our first release is Azelf! (Lunala, Mega Blaziken, Mega Garchomp in the works)

Solo Raiding is an entirely different beast when it comes to reaching that 50 DPS threshold. These guides are aimed to gently introduce and explain how strategies are executed while trying to keep various budgets in mind and offer multiple solutions to the challenge.

Here are some fun features:
- Hovering a mechanic link shows a clip example of how to do it.
- Time to win for varying budgets included
- Existing guides can be edited and submitted for PR review.
- Anyone can write & Share a guide which will go through PR review.

Please let me know how I can make these guides better and improve them! I strongly believe that while battle showcases are helpful, there are lots of missing details to explain how to achieve success. These guides will be how the team (small atm) tries to bridge the gap.

Edit: FAQ's that I'm sure will be asked but would love feedback on how to answer:
Q: "Can my XYZ party solo XYZ boss?" (most of the time it's yes but the hurdle to success is usually learning & practicing raid strategies)
Q: "Do IV's matter" I think the way we'll approach this is: "If they did, we'll mention it" 99% of the time no.
Q: "Pokebattler or Pokegenie or some sim says it's not possible" They are bots. You are a person, you're far more capable than any simulator that exists.

In addition to guides there are lots of resources to help you prepare for challenges in general.
- Catch Tank | Main DPS Calculator
- Mechanics page with embedded mp4 clips as visual queues.
- Move Data/Pokemon Stats
- Most used Raiders
- Catch Tank Database (lists viable catch tanks which have been used in raids already)

Side by Side Solo Azelf Psycho Cut vs Shadow Claw (NWB/AE)

Shadow claw rotation fainted twice toward the end (but did not lose MGB damage). As a safe buffer the adjusted TTW when using shadow claw in this run had there been no mistakes would be 287.0s instead of 289.0s. The same can be said about failing some TPC's with psycho cut (tick perfect casts) but that's a natural learning curve.
- TTW PC: 277.5s
- TTW SC: 289.0s
- TTW SC Adjusted*: 287s

Basically shows when reaching for highest DPS, Psycho Cut is better even when the boss resists psychic

UI Updates Solo Archive & Collab w/ Pokechespin

Hey guys, just wanted to share some final updates that were a collaborative effort with u/CreatorBeastGD of Pokechespin and u/Celandro Pokebattler. You're probably tired of these posts, i'm sorry but these are big.

I'll keep it short so here are the 4 major updates.

  1. We have a catch tank database which records viable catch tanks in the meta. Players can play with the catch tank calculator & if they find an entry over 50 DPS (Solo raid breakpoint) they may submit it to the database directly! The screenshot shows some examples of Kyurem White's Fusion Flare vs Necrozma Dusk Mane and Zacian Catch Tanks. (Proof that NDM is mathematically better) We're looking to include Mega breakpoints (30 DPS) in the future.
  2. Meta battle parties now link the player to their respective raid record. If there are multiple records for a battle parties the user can choose. In addition, meta battle parties can be loaded as a preset to PokeChespin with the exact level, boosts, weather, moveset and (in progress) IV's. Try this out w/ their turn by turn simulator.
  3. Lots of tooltips have been added. 3D sprites have replaced the older 2D sprites. Added lots of mobile UI quality updates.
  4. The landing page now contains all soloable monthly and event raids, clicking any of these icons directly links you to the easiest recorded solo strategy. Massive thanks to Celandro for allowing me to pull raid schedules from Pokebattler's API.

In Progress (idk how much I can disclose)
- Pokebattler & I are working on a cool project... :)
- Pokechespin & I are exploring introducing a collection for shortman max battle recordings.
- We are preparing to write "how to solo x" guides; more personal and detailed tutorials for tackling bosses alone or in small lobbies with randoms.

Solo Solgaleo (Sunny/Blade Boost)

Solgaleo: Fire Spin/Solar Beam

Note: Shadow Reshiram budget is thin; I only had 2 decent ones so I ran this party to show you don't need 4x or 5x to make it work.

Party:
Main DPS: Lv 50: Shadow Reshi: 14/9/10
Supp DPS: Lv 48.5 Shadow Reshi: 12/8/8 (Reaches breakpoint at this lvl)
Executor: Lv 50 Mega Blaziken: Blast Burn & Blaze Kick (IV's dont matter apart from 15 attack)
Catch Tanks: 3x NDW Lv 50: Psycho Cut / Moongiest beam (IV's dont matter apart from 15 attack. 12 def preferred but doesnt matter that much)

Notes on NDW:
NDW's role is to catch tank solar beam when it doesn't hit at optimal times. Tanking 1 solar beam + 1 fire spin allows it to reach 58.0 DPS otherwise it's 53 DPS. 3 of mine are 12 def but the other is 14 def and I was fine. Why Psycho Cut vs Shadow Claw. The problem with shadow claw is speed. It is astronomically slow building to Moongeist Beam. You want to waste minimal time on NDW getting that moongeist beam off because the tradeoff is Shadow Reshiram up-time. PC is mathematically the better fast move. You can calculate this on https://soloraidarchive.github.io/ct-calculator.html or check the database.

Strat:
Aim for 1 rejoin and catch tank poorly timed solar beams with NDW; otherwise absorb with Shadow Reshiram. Shadow reshiram can tank 2 solarbeams relatively comfortably however if you want the 1 rejoin breakpoint, you're hoping that solgaleo goes quiet and spams fire spins. At that point it's probably 1 solar beam and out.

NDW should be swapped in roughly 3.0 or later into the solar beam to have time to sponge the additional fire spin.

Blaziken is used to buy time to reach 1 rejoin which is roughly an exit after 150s at the earliest but ideally 130s if possible. No dodging though.

In the last cycle, blaze kick is pretty critical to finish off the boss if you don't have time to cast the slow blast burn. The video shows a great example of the run winning off of blaze kick!

Solo Raid Archive UI Updates / User Friendly Features

Hey everyone! I took a lot of feedback and brought some major QOL and intro friendly of changes to SoloRaidArchive.github.io

Here's a recap of the structure and changes to the site.

Landing Page Changes

- Now has a submit a vod section! If you have a solo raid vod that hasn't been recorded feel free to submit your vod! Vods can be submitted via the google form (clickable box)
- Includes highly credible secondary resources for shortmanned raids; currently working with pokechespin's u/creatorbeastGD to see if we can push Dynamax shortmanned records archives in the future.
- Difficulty reference moved to the raid archive pages.
- Overhead menu and spacing reduced, more snug UI changes.
- patch notes moved to the bottom

Research Changes:

All move data:
- Simplified information on their damage, energy, animation duration.
- (New) Shows DPS*DPE or EPS*DPS values. (with some theoretical moves)

Catch tank calculator: to help player accurately try out catch tanking without having to experiment blindly in a raid. The catch tank calculator:
- Saves the 10 most recent entries.
- Auto recognizes type effectiveness, weather, shadow, and stab.
- Tells the player when their pokemon is in danger of fainting
- Tells the player the exact damage dealt, damage received & energy gained during the interaction
- Includes Mega level 4

Meta Battle Parties:
- (New): Battle parties are tracked observationally from all raid records, now links player to specific raid entries where that party was used.
- (New): Improved sorting filters

Pokemon Stats:
- (New): Shows effective stats at levels 40-51. (will soon include 53)
- (New): Offers a filter to show base stats (non-effective)
- (New): Progress bars added to improve visual friendliness for stats.

Raid archive changes:

- (New): Massive UI overhaul on raid cards; lots of color declutter and information overload cleaning.
- (New): Tool tips added for keywords, buffs and any strategies unfamiliar to the reader.
- (New): Mobile friendly filters added.
- (New): Card size reduced. Cards are 1-1, 1 strategy per card.

Lots of more changes not mentioned here also done; feel free to explore.

Future changes in work:
- replacing pokemon artwork from sugimori style to something more 16bit or 32bit for better visual contrast.
- entertaining the idea of a catch tank research sheet; uses data from the CT calculator and logs it into a record of quality catch tanks for specific bosses. Entries will be sorted by bosses and list the various catch tanks & their interactions used. Only catch tanks with adequate DPS will be added.
- Major Idea: Introducing "How to solo x" guides. Guides which are directly linkable from the boss archive or google searchable via good SEO. These will be guides breaking down general strategy, basics for a boss. Specific details will be left in a separate section to reduce information overload. These guides will cover all strategies for a certain boss; these are typically filters such as: Weather boost, moveset, adventure effect.

The last idea is a LOT of work and may come in after we've established that this is the format we want the site to be in.

Most used Counters in recorded Solo Raids (Top 20)

From the soloraidarchive.github.io; website front for the Solo Raid Sheet

The archive has logged about 80% of all executable solo raids with video proof evidence. The observational data presented here comes from that 80% and does not include future or unrecorded entries.

Methodology:

Each pokemon is counted once per record with respect to a boss. Each record varies off a couple things; boss move set, weather and use of adventure effect.

For example; Zekrom has a catch tank strategy (Outrage) which uses Eternatus, Kyurem Black, Mega Rayquaza. It also has a hotswap strategy (Flash Cannon) which also uses Eternatus, Kyurem Black, Mega Rayquaza. In this example we would count 2 each because the fundamental strategy for the raid changes when the boss moveset changes.

Some notes I found interesting:

Primal Groudon has lots of usages; with various cases used against Mega Tier 4s and weaker Tier 5s (regieleki, Xurkitree, Nihilego, Heatran, etc) Its high raid count is due to high presence of weaker bosses and also its strong main DPS role among ground counters.

- Shadow Rampardos & Shadow Tyrantrum are used commonly among the same battle parties with a near same raid count usage. (Except in 1 instance Shadow Rampardos was used with Regieleki) Their moveset and difference in resistances complement each other with 2-bar Rock Slide and 1-bar Meteor Beam.

Regarding MMY/MMX/Shadow Reshiram Data

- Not enough recorded entries (videos) have been added to the archive or recorded on the sheet just yet due to how recently these counters came out.

- Moreover MMY/MMX may gain new moves once their adventure effects are released; the website will refresh this list in real time once new entries have been recorded.

In person SMR: Don't be afraid to yell out: "USE YOUR MEGAS"

I would rather be embarrassed reminding people to do the bare minimum for super mega raids than sit quietly and build resentment throughout the entire event.

Our community meet up had over 150-200 people show up for super mega raids at our local park. Even 20 people lobbies occasionally had only 7 players use their megas to break shields. Yes in the short term it feels uncomfortable to have someone yell out "USE YOUR MEGAS"; in an ideal world we don't have to do that.

But, too many people don't pay attention to the bare minimum of super mega raids and this is what we have to deal with. So if next time your community is not using their Megas, yell it out and make it uncomfortable in the short term to invest a better experience in the long term for everyone else. Some people may think you're aggressive but most people would probably think "thank god someone said it outloud" and appreciate you for taking initiative.

New Github Web Archive for Solo Raids

Hi everyone!

I'm Spiritedbloom; the author of the solo raid sheet, a long time community effort documenting & archiving short-man raids and while researching raid powercreep. For the past several months we've been entertaining the idea of creating a more UI friendly website to help share these findings not just in data form but in a way that is more attractive and easily navagatible for interested players!

The website, SoloRaidArchive.github.io, pulls data from the solo raid sheet csv's to
- Log novel solo raids & their strategies
- Research top-end meta
- Tutor or introduce raid tips to newer raiders
- Archive history of raids through different metas.
- Offer tools for players to build their own team (In progress! But catch tank calculator is fully functional now)
- Present monthly infographics from u/rwaterbender

I also want to use this website as a center of research. Something that really defines the archive is it is focused on the union of observational research & raid mathematics.

Observational data:
- Collecting solo raid data (battles parties, strategies, videos)
- Counting # of usages each pokemon has
- Observing how pokemon are used from vods; assigning roles.

Mathematical data:
- CT Calculation, seeing which catch tanks output the most DPS.
- more TBD,

Edit: I'm currently chatting with u/creatorbeastGD (Author of PokeChespin) and u/Celandro (Author of Pokebattler) to explore ideas to collaborate

Tldr;
Solo raid sheet now has a site: soloraidarchive.github.io
It's prettier than the sheet :)
Lots of fun stuff coming soon!

Feedback is always appreciated! In the mean time i'll be cleaning up small bugs such as images not showing properly or the AI not recognizing the type matrix during calculations etc.

Graphic Update for Solo Raid Sheet T5

Hey everyone; I'm the author of the Solo raid sheet.

What's New:

The sheet is going through a major graphic update to better convey how raid parties are organized in raid challenges and the thought process other players put into come up with their team! There are now 4 new keywords describing each Pokemon's role inside the battle party. These are:

- Main DPS: The primary damage dealer
- Support DPS: Support DPS steps in when the Main DPS goes down.
- Catch Tank: Catch Tanks intercept large moves & return heavy damage.
- Executor: Executors finish a boss off in small windows; 1 per team.

An overview of these roles & their impact on raids can be found under the Raid Strategies Tab. The sheet also has tutorial videos for any player interested in learning more.

What's in the screenshot

Above are the new & old formats of sample Tier 5 raids soloable while using the Crown adventure effects. The necessary conditions to begin the raid challenge are included. These are:
- Weather
- Moveset
- Strategies
- Lineups
- Adventure effect

The difference are the keywords associated with each pokemon; adding some nuance and dimensionality to how raid parties are organized.

I'd love to hear your feedback!

Edit:
- One problem I am working on are when players use two different raid parties. For instance, a player may use 6x Shadow Regigigas up until the last cycle, then re-join with a party of 5 Shadow Regigigas and 1 Shadow Rampardos. The entry for this example is in the 7 ⭐ Solo Tornadus-Therian; where 1 Main Shadow Regigigas and 5 Support shadow Regigigas are listed with an additional Shadow Rampardos filling an executor role.

Unity Mega Mewtwo X/Y Raid Info

These were data collected from GoFest Global Tokyo park experience.

- Mega Mewtwo X was seen with 94179 CP
- Mega Mewtwo Y was seen with 99042 CP

Based off these values and from the information datamined we now know a lot about how these tentatively work. It is possible Unity Raids are adjusted as a result from Tokyo feedback.

Info:
- It is Tier 6 (Same as Mega Legendary)
- CPM is 0.79
- HP is 22500.

Unity Specific Mechanics.
- No manual rejoins are allowed. (party must faint)
- Raid time limit is 180s.
- At a low %hp players will need to raise their phone to perform a special charge attack effectively executing the pokemon. This does not interfere with the timer.
- There is no enrage mechanic.
- Players "need" to raise their phone up after successfully catching Mewtwo (it's a gimmick allegedly)
- Berries cannot be used to catch & it's a guaranteed catch. (Thank you u/pinakasuperman)

Rewards:
- There was an instance of 300 energy gained with 108* time to win (Granted it's not a DPS problem, the game lags because of 900+ raiders at once) I am not sure if more or less energy is gained based off TTW. It seems to match SMR energy drops.

Edit:
- Added Raid Time Limit
- Rejoins are allowed* once the entire party faints.
