Took a swing at actually cooking PT3, not quite, but pretty damn good

About a week ago I bought a steak on a lark and tried to cook it properly. By sheer beginners luck I produced a meal that looked restaurant quality but lacked any real flavor.

Took all the Reddit advice and tried again. The steak looked depressed but actually had some flavor. Just severely over salted. and the potato came out hard as rock.

Round three came out a combo of the two. The steak didn’t produce the crust of the first, but at least wasn’t miserable looking. The flavor wasn’t outstanding but it actually had some. The veggies are the best I’ve ever made. Still keep undercooking the potato but at least I could eat some of it.

This has turned into such a fun project. My goal now is to make a steak dinner I‘d be happy to buy at a restaurant. Getting close. And failures are still a nice steak dinner.

Use it or lose it breakfast orgy hash: eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese, habanero, and hot sauce.

Greasy, messy, spicy, kitchen needed cleaning goodness.

Breakfast for dinner for breakfast: failed omelette burrito sized taco

I love breakfast. Tried to make an omelette with bacon and cheese. It was too big don’t fold right. Who cares. Just slapped it on a tortilla and it all goes down the same.

I took a swing at actually cooking PT2. I f’d, kinda

Tried the same meal again and messed up most of it. Bought a shitty target steak, the kind not in a butcher styrofoam (first mistake). Bought another potato and seasoned it, then didn’t put any holes in it, it was way too big and came out inedible(second mistake). Bought some salt and went ham with it, way too much. I feel dehydrated after it(third mistake). Also used like three times the amount of butter, I think that was a win TBH.

But there was actually more flavor than the better looking first go. I think if I tone down the salt and get a better piece of meat this would actually turn out pretty good. Even the depressed steak had more flavor, just way too much salt. The veggies were also better, despite the lethal amount of salt.

Round three coming after I get paid.

Took a swing at actually cooking. It was ok.

Disappointingly it looks so much better than it ended up being. I normally make pretty simple and ok food (some variation of chicken, rice, and veggies) but today I saw a steak and decided to go for it. Bought butter, garlic, followed a recipe. Did everything to a tee. But the flavor just wasn’t really there. Steak a little under cooked. Veggies were good but still lacked the flavor I was hoping for.

But it was nice to try and make something actually good. This isn’t over. I’m determined to cook a good meal now.

Got an opportunity to move into a new place at less than half my previous rent. Been using it to build newer better habits. Ive so far cooked every dinner and keep the place organized and cleaned. Coming from my old depression den of mess and take out it’s been an uplift on life. Things are finally looking up.
