Need advice from PSN —> Steam users.
Primary a PS gamer here but I also use Steam for a lot of online games. After this awful console generation where it feels like the console industry has completely stagnated and took more steps backwards than forwards, I’m tired of it all and want to shift to primarily using Steam and start building a PC Library. I just want to ask a few questions and get some advice from people who were in a similar situation, even if you. I’ll leave some additional context before asking the questions.
My PS library is good but not large enough to where it feels like I’m leaving this huge collection behind by transferring to Steam. For singles player games I primarily play JRPGs, Soulslikes and PS Exclusives and I don’t see why I can’t just do most of this stuff on PC atp besides Bloodborne. Of course I will still have both collections available, but want to start primarily buying games on PC now barring a PS Exclusive release (doesn’t exist).
I was hoping that PlayStation would make a PC Launcher, at least for players that had an active PS PLUS, and this was the main reason I stayed with PlayStation throughout this console gen, but after the announcement that Sony is completely pulling back from PC launches or anything PC related I have lost hope that this will ever happen. Even Xbox is doing it so I don’t get why it’s so hard it feels purposeful and evil at this point.
Another issue is almost all of my friends play on PC exclusively and it’s hard even to Stream a game to my friends on Discord as it’s an extreme hassle where I have to end up playing the game on lower quality because Remote Play is so garbage and PS doesn't have native screen share to discord, both issues have not been addressed for years at this point.
TLDR: It feels like my main issues with Playstation have not been addressed for years and their stance is actively against what I want. They are also not out-putting the same quality anymore which makes their stance more ridiculous. When I was a kid I was much more tolerant because I was unaware to the larger gaming industry, but now I'm an adult and it's becoming very annoying to play games on the daily.
My main questions are:
Do you see Steam or PlayStation having more success in the long term? I don’t want to have an Xbox situation where a company completely implodes and the consumers are put in an awful situation and forced to switch.
Is the Steam Achievement system on a similar quality to PlayStation Trophies?
Is the optimization for games as bad as people say it is? FFXVI for example.
Does Steam have more sales that PlayStation, so I can build-up a collection much faster and easier?
Does Steam have a larger and faster growing player base? I am really not sure at this point.
Are there any major downsides to Steam that I should know of? Is it too late to start Steam since it's existed for a while now?
Ultimately are you satisfied that you made the switch?
Ty for the help everyone.
