How do we feel about a 15 or 16 year old kid getting a scooter in this sub?

There's a kid in the main sub asking for advice how to convince his parents how to get cheap scooter.

He's getting push back which is funny to me. I mean I get it if he was like 10 or 12 years old. But this is a teenager who's in at least a 10th grade and is now eligible to get his learner's permit or full driver's license in some states.

He can't get a scooter that goes 15 miles an hour? 🀣🀣🀣

Compared to all the wild stuff some of us did at that same age I'm definitely okay with a kid his age putting on a helmet and jumping on scooter that does under 20 mph.

By that age I was skateboarding on half pipes and driving a car with a 455 rocket engine in it doing 100 mph when I could get away with it! 😁

I got a razor blade in one of my back tires tonight. Son of a biscuit eater.

One of my neighbors was doing a home project and left some miscellaneous garbage and a razor blade that my tire picked up for them right in front of their driveway.

I've done repairs with screws and nails before but never got a longer object like this.

I know this tire is toast but it seems like in this day and age there would be some type of technology available that could repair something like this. Some type of vulcanizing product that could mend a cut like this.

It made the craziest sound when it happened. It sounded like I rolled over a wire clothes hanger that was doubled over.

Soon as I heard that I started thinking okay back tire please don't start making a funny noise please don't start making a funny noise...nope it's making a funny noise. 🀣

I've been wanting to swap out for some PMT tires I have on hand anyway.

Scooters for military and industrial use.

Zesty made a post the other day with a video about an old-timey scooter the military had developed. It sent me down a little bit of a rabbit hole.

I know that law enforcement in different countries are using scooters and I figured modern military would be as well. But I didn't know the extent of it and how HUGE their scooters are.

This is just an example of one company that's making the scooters I'm sure there are others.

But I also didn't know the extent of the use of stand-up scooters for industrial settings as well. Pretty cool. Check out this website:

How to find a local battery builder?

I need to find someone to install a new BMS on a 60 volt battery for me.

I have shops that do stand up scooter repairs close by but I'm having trouble finding someone to do an extensive battery job like that.

I found a moped type scooter shop that has a battery guy who does that type of work but they've been a reluctant to give me his contact information for whatever reason.

So I'm creating this post to see if there are other sources that might be less recognized but right in front of me.

Shops that do repairs on high-end electric motorcycles or even motors for handicap type equipment should have people that are familiar enough with large batteries to do a quick BMS install on something like this right?

Anybody have some good suggestions for me?

Spooky looking night on the hillside.

Last ride on my scooters for a week. Heading to FL for some holiday time. I've been riding daily for so long now I'm already wishing I could bring a scooter with me. 🀣

To give some context, when I ride to this particular lookout I get to blast down a back country road to get there. It's a nice downward slope with smooth pavement and only a couple houses along the way so I can go down the hill doing about 50 mph. It's not a long road road but I get to open it up for about 30 seconds or so which is plenty for me. Definitely enough to put a smile on my face no matter the mood I'm in.

For the record I don't do any photoshopping or anything else with my photos. I just point and click when I see the light hitting right.

Tuesday night cruise on the Tiger Supra.

I work from home so most days as soon as I come upstairs from my office I jump right on the scooter and head out. Some days I can catch the light just right. This was one of those days.

I love this scooter more and more everyday I ride it. Still waiting to do the last upgrade and install the E-splora tires. Decided to wait until next week when I get home from a vacation trip.

Protective gear you can wear underneath your clothes?

Any of you use knee pads and elbow pads designed to go underneath clothing?

I've only been wearing a helmet so far. But I'd like to see if there is high quality protective gear that works under loose fitting clothing.

I'm seeing gear like Leatt and similar companies that seem like would work well under clothing.

What does it mean when the re-centering trick isn't working on your brakes?

It seems to happen only with the front brakes on both of my main scooters for some reason.

Brake pads will start lightly touching the rotor. Loosen up the caliper arm or whatever you call it so it moves freely, squeeze the brake handle to center, keep squeezing the brake handle while tightening it back down again.

But then when I test it sounds worse than it was to start with. I can rinse and repeat the same recentering method but it never gets better. The only way to quiet it down is to sit there moving the caliper bracket around just ever so lightly until they don't touch and then tightening everything up.

Which is aggravating because even when I get it centered perfectly doing it kind of manually like that as soon as I try to tighten the bolt down the tightening itself will push to one side and I have to start over again.

So why isn't the recentering trick working for me?

What's the verdict here on using tire sealants on tubeless tires for faster scooters?

I know the most recommended brands seem to be either Armor-Dilloz or FlatOut.

They both have Kevlar fiber technology. Do they both have some risk of globbing up after a long time and possibly throwing your tire off balance? Is that really the only reason not to do it?

I know in comparison if you use Slime and you have to actually go back in and fix something with the tire it can be an enormous mess. Is the mess using these other products less of a problem?

What say ye on using these products?

Hiley Tiger Supra replacement scooter update.

I bought a new Tiger Supra directly from Hiley about a month ago. I put about 100 miles on it and it was working great.

But it started doing this thing where it felt like the tire was kind of floating back and forth a little while riding. My first guess was it had something to do with the steering damper so I took it off to test out the theory. But even without the damper on it was still extra squirrely for some reason.

Hiley did some troubleshooting with me through email and they seemed confident it was just a loose headset bolt inside the stem. So I ordered a very large hex wrench to try to adjust the headset bolt. But I discovered the bolt was stuck in place and possibly cross threaded at the factory.

The bolt would only move if I banged on that wrench with a rubber mallet and it barely moved even doing that. Hiley asked for me to send them a video of what I was describing to them. I sent the video in and the very next day they authorized a replacement scooter to be sent out. They paid for the return shipping and once they received my scooter they had the replacement on the way to me just a few days.

I received it back yesterday. I installed the extra long 13 inch steering damper this morning and I've taken it out on several rides today. So far so good.

It's absolutely my favorite scooter to ride. I even like it more than my Blade GT II. Seems like it's designed to be more maneuverable. Also the way the gear buttons are laid out on the handlebar it's just more user friendly while riding. I ride in some pretty busy neighborhoods during the day I need to adjust the gear settings quite often and this one allows me to go from first gear to fifth gear back and forth all in a matter of seconds.

Only thing I wish was different, the stock tires these come with have a very sharp edge where the tread ends. If you lean too far in one direction on a deep turn it does feel like that edge would catch if you go much further. So I ordered some newer style PMT tires with some extra tread on them to try out:

I'll update here if something changes with the scooter but I'm really glad to be back on it for now. These things are a blast. Zoom zoom!

Am I harming my scooter by only using the e-brakes on the front?

With my Blade GT II it's been a pain to get the front brake pads to not rub against the rotor. Finally figured out one of the calipers isn't pushing back in correctly and it's pushing the pad onto the rotor.

I ordered an entirely new brake housing with new calipers to install. But while I've been waiting for that to come in the mail I removed the front brake pads completely, drained the oil out of the brake line, and zip tied the line to the side of the scooter so it's out of the way of the wheel.

I discovered the e-brake works surprisingly well without the brake pads. Even at high speed it will stop the entire scooter all by itself without even engaging the rear brakes. By using them both just like you would normally it brings the scooter to a screeching hault.

I'm using the front e-brake so much I'm not worried I'm putting too much wear and tear on the rear brakes by using them alone.

I can put the front brake pads back on soon but in the meantime am I at risk of harming anything by doing this?

Where's a good place to buy a BMS?

I need a BMS for a 60V, 35Ah Samsung cell battery. I know the specs but I'm not finding exact one that I need.

I sent a message to a couple sellers on AliExpress that sell BMS components but haven't heard back yet.

Is there a certain store or seller that someone knows I should check out?

Shout-out for Hiley scooters.

I recently purchased a brand new Hiley Tiger Supra. I was really happy with it but after a few weeks it developed a problem with something inside the stem.

Once up to speed it felt like the front tire was kind of floating back and forth on the road and if I wiggled the handlebar even slightly it would start to go into a wobble.

Hiley recommended I purchase a special hex wrench and try to adjust the headset bolt. Which I did but I discovered the headset bolt seems to have been cross threaded at the factory so there was no way to make an adjustment.

I ultimately think there's something else that had gone wrong inside the stem itself.

After a few emails back and forth they asked that I shoot them a couple videos which I did. Afterwards they very quickly agreed to send me a replacement scooter. I have the scooter boxed up and it will ship out tomorrow morning back to them.

I would like to add it was no longer than a 12-hour wait in between in emails required to get this return authorized.

As we all know getting a company like this to agree to swap out for an entirely new scooter can sometimes be a painful process. I'm glad they stepped up and did the right thing for me and made it painless as well.

WTF happened to my scooter???

Brand new scooter. Installed a new steering damper last night. Took it out for a long ride. Everything was working perfectly. It was steering just fine and extra stable with new damper.

Took it for a ride tonight and it suddenly felt as if my front tire was floating over to the left and then back to the right.

Felt like the front tire was literally moving like 6 in to the right and then 6 in to the left and back over again. But looking down the tire seemed to be perfectly centered with the scooter and on the road. I could barely keep it centered in the middle. Definitely felt dangerous.

I had read that steering damper can cause something similar so I came home and removed the steering damper. Took it back out but that definitely was not it something else is major wrong. It was still so squirrely on the front end I was afraid to even ride it home from where I was so I walked it in.

I checked all the major bolts and tested to make sure there was no play in the handlebars and made sure the stem lined up properly with the wheel. Everything looks fine.

Doing a quick Google search it looks like the steering headset be that could be the culprit?

Even with the scooter just stationary moving the handlebars back and forth it now feels like the front end weighs like 20 pounds lighter I can turn the entire stem and wheel back and forth with one hand like it's made of a feather. I'm thinking the new pressure of the steering damper did something to the steering somehow.

Is it the headset what happened? I'm pretty freaking bummed right now.

I had a lot of trouble with my Blade GT when I first got it and I still haven't got it running perfect yet either. Now this is happening. Fuck me man.

Some upgrades for the Hiley Tiger Supra.

Finally had some time over the weekend to install some new toys.

Added on a 13 inch damper. Which was available along with the scooter with a kit to install it. Works really well and I'm pleased with it. This scooter was already pretty stable without a damper but now it's very stable and smooth.

Installed dual MagicShine 1700 lumen headlights. These are true to their lumens and are really bright. But they are designed with an anti glare beam pattern so the light shoots out really far in front of you but doesn't blind on coming traffic. They have wireless remotes that attach to the handlebar as well. The photo I included showing how well they work was taken on a street that was pitch black give you an idea. The scooter headlight is on in that picture but other than giving you a very small preview of what's right in front of you with a half moon shape it really serves no other purpose.

Also got an additional charger in the mail yesterday because this scooter has dual charging capability. Tested them out together and this is going to seriously cut down on charging time for sure.

I have a set of PMT Strasdale tires to install in the next couple days as well. After that I'll be good to go for a bit.
