What are these extra wide curbs on the bike lanes?

This is on Broadway. Why are they so wide near this intersection, as opposed to the regular curbs for the majority of the lane?

This is not a post for debating the utility of protected bike lanes, I’m a strong supporter - just curiosity.

TAP card checks at 7th/Metro station

There was Metro security checking TAP cards (checking for actual payment) at 7th/Metro today, on the platforms.

Not sure if this is the best way of doing it vs on the trains themselves? 7th/Metro has the tall fare gates so there I would assume there is less fare evasion in the station than other stations (although there are those who wait to go in the gates when someone else taps).
