Anime Expo Train Spotting

Just one of many videos I took of our humble trains sparing people of parking and traffic. My first AX was also when the RC opened, I've been going ever since and honestly I truly think Pico station gets busier and busier every year for AX!

Is there a way to get from the Burbank airport to the little Tokyo subway station?

Hi. I’m from a small town in the Midwest, so I’m not really used to public transportation. It’s hard to read and understand maps very well. Is there a subway station near the Burbank airport? I’m mapping out my trip right now. Thank you

Anime Expo ads at Little Tokyo Station (Day 2, Friday)

I wasn't at Anime Expo for Day 3 (Saturday), as I needed a day to rest up and recharge my batteries (literal and figurative) before returning on Sunday. So no transit cosplay for today.

But I like that the entrance to the Little Tokyo/ Arts District Station is decorated up for the convention. A lot of convention-goers seem to visit Little Tokyo during the event to either shop or eat, so it seems appropriate to have the ad there.

The Regional Connector makes it easy to shuttle back-and-forth between the venue and the neighborhood.

How to get to 300 s grand avenue from artisan on 2nd apartments.

Hello, so I just started a new job in the 1Cal building on 300 s grand avenue building. What is the cheapest and fastest way to get from my apartment to the dtla building? I know there is the A and E metro line but I wanted to see if there was another method that would require the least amount of walking.

Trip tracking system

Does anyone have a way to keep track of all the trips you ride (start station, end station, time, line etc.)? I’d like to do this but manually in excel is the only thing I can think of.

If not, I might start building this if anyone else is interested!

A Fantasy /Concept of three transit lines to the San Gabriel Valley and eastern San Bernardo County, involving a new Bechtel-style automated system starting from Venice and an extension of the D & J lines.

This would extend the D Line Subway from Union Station all the way to Rancho Cucamonga Station via Garvey Ave, Ramona Blvd, Badillo, and Holt St. The D Line would also be extended west to Downtown Santa Monica, giving a one-seat ride from the beach to the valley.

The J Line would take over the Silver Streak's service. This J Line would head to the southern terminus in San Pedro via Harbor Bl & 7th (instead of Beacon St & 1st), and there would be a reduced number of stops in the San Pedro area. For the eastern portion by the Cal Polly area, the J Line would detour to the infill Metrolink Station for the Riverside Line near the campus at Temple Av & Valley. Lastly, it will be given full 24-hour bus lanes in the DTLA, San Pedro, and Holt Av so the stops along the bus lanes can be eligible for SB 79 development.

And for the third line that goes to Venice, it starts at Venice Beach, where it heads along the Venice Blvd, La Cienega Bl, east on Melrose Av, Sunset Av, Huntington Dr, Main St, Valley St, Amar Rd, before heading towards Chino and the ONA field.

The station along this longer D Line includes:

Wilshire/4th, Wilshire/ 14th, Wilshire/ 26th, Wilshire/Bundy Barrington (Option), ...... Wilshire/ Robertson (Infill), ........ Wilshire/ Lucienne (Option).... Boyle Heights, Evergreen, Cal State LA, Garvey/ Atlantic, Monterey Park, Garvey/ New, Garvey/ Del Mar, Garvey/ San Gabriel, Rosemead/ Garvey, Santa Anita, Five Points, Francisquite (Option), Merced, Baldwin Park Metrolink Station, Badillo/ Sunset, Badillo/ Vincent (Option), Badillo/ Azusa, Convia, Badillo/ Grand, Cal State Poly, Dudley (Option), Pomona Downtown, Indian Hill, Holt/ Central, Holt/ Mountain, Ontario, Grove (Option), Vineyard/ Convention Center, Ontario International Airport, Ontario Mills & Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink Station.

The station along this longer J Line includes:

Atlantic Busway (Infill), Del Mar Busway (Optional), El Monte Corporate Center (Infill), Ramona/Tyler, Valley/Peck Rd, Five Points, Baldwin Park Bl (Option), Puente, West Convia Mall Busway, Azusa Av, Citrus (Option), Cal State Poly, Cal State Poly Metrolink Station, Dudley, Hamilton, Pomona Downtown, Towne/ Lincoln (option), Montclair Place & Montclair Metrolink Station.

The station along the Veince to Chino Line includes:

Little Tokyo to Coliseum for America250 today: Metro E Line vs. Uber/Waymo?

I’m heading to the LA Memorial Coliseum tonight for the America250 event. I currently live in Little Tokyo, and my friend and I are having a debate about the best way to get there and back.

  • My friend's plan: Take an Uber or a Waymo both ways.
  • My plan: Take the Metro E Line since it goes directly from Little Tokyo/Arts District to Expo Park.

I’m highly skeptical about rideshares for an event of this scale. I feel like finding a pickup spot and dealing with the post-event gridlock and surge pricing will be an absolute nightmare. On the other hand, I know the E Line will be packed like a sardine can, but at least it's a guaranteed, predictable ride home.

For those who regularly attend massive events at the Coliseum: How bad is the rideshare situation afterward? Is it worth trying to get an Uber/Waymo, or should I convince my friend to just suffer through the crowded Metro with me?

Thanks in advance!

You should Download the LA Metro Transit Watch App

This is a quick explanation of how to download and/or why you might want to download the Metro transit watch app.

First off the app is NOT a replacement for 911.

It acts similarly to the LA 311 app in that it allows you to directly report suspicious activity, damaged la metro property, accessibility issues or blocked pathways, trash, text LA Metro or call LA Metro security directly.

In case of emergency 888-950-7233 (LA Metro direct report) or 213-788-2777 (Metro Security) or 911 (police) but metro security might be that fastest response time wise.

It is downloadable on all major mobile platforms (Apple, Android, Samsung) via their respective App Store and will only take about 20 seconds to do so.

When opened the app will give you a welcome tour and ask you to create an account (optional).

Each report on the app makes LA Metro safer and more responsive to your concerns so please download and use it to improve both your own and others Metro experience.

First time riding metro and Metrolink

Well today I did it, finally for the first time rode Metrolink via the San Bernardino line to get to LA Union station and then ride the A line to get to LA convention center for anime expo.

Gotta say, the actual ride was very good, very smooth, got there within a reasonable time and found it to be a fairly stress free and affordable experience, did have some thoughts on the matter though, for one: SB 79 can NOT come soon enough, one thing I noticed while riding Metrolink was that for a lot of these stations they’re either in the middle of an area of town people don’t typically go to or even live near, OR, it was mostly a big park and ride station. There was only a few stations where it felt as though the station was located in a logical area where it could be of use, one super bizarre location that stood out to me was the Redlands esri station, it’s quite literally just a isolated island station that makes no sense for it to be located there, where every other station has some logical basis for the most part. High density housing for sure needs to be built around these stations along with even some commercial areas that would attract people to visit. I think downtown Redlands has a lot of potential in this regard

Second: I REALLY loved the actual LA metro, holy crap, it’s a great ride and is very simple to use, it felt daunting going into it as someone who’s never ridden public transit until now where it’s actually a fairly easy breezy process. It also seemed really busy, both metro and Metrolink, which is great and makes it feel more alive.

Third: Is the tap card sometimes useless? To preface, I was under the assumption my Metrolink ticket would be enough to get free transfers onto the LA metro, but when I tried scanning it it didn’t work, ok, that’s fine, I’ll get the tap card since I’m still saving money either way compared to if I drove and bought parking. My girlfriend and I both tried getting tap cards but it seemed like such a bizarre process, it gave you the option of loading up the cards with specific amounts, we both chose the 3.50 option since that would be enough for a two way trip from little Tokyo to the convention center then back, then for whatever reason the kiosk said this wasn’t enough money to put in, what? Why even provide that as an option then? Ok well whatever, we bump it up to about 5, we get our cards and go to scan in, both of our cards say error and don’t even work, I do it twice more and it randomly finally accepts and lets me go, for her, all it said was “already scanned” and doesn’t allow her to go in, she has to go load it up again, then comes back, it does literally the same thing again, at that point I told her to just come under the turnstile since she basically paid twice. Had no clue what we did wrong, I eventually decided maybe if I just added the tap card to my wallet on iPhone it would work better and sure enough it had no issues once we left the convention center. Well that sucks, wasted a few more dollars unnecessarily just because the cards refused to work, kind of soured the overall experience in that regard. Wasn’t any security or workers in the area to maybe help so we just had to wing it. I’m new to all this evidently so if people want to provide some insight in the comments for future use please let me know what I did wrong or any other advice.

Fourth and finally: I REALLY wish service for Metrolink went later, because I would LOVE to use it if I went to LA for laker games or dodger games. I hate the hassle of finding parking and paying exorbitant prices for said parking when there’s a perfectly good metro system available in the city to use. As it stands, it’s only really feasible for me if I specifically have a day trip in mind like today, latest train from LA to Redlands was at 7:38 which was fine in this case since I was there since 10:30 and we both were tuckered out, say I wanted to catch the dodger game tonight? Well, tough luck buddy.

Regardless, I enjoyed my time on the rails quite a lot, and would recommend it to anyone I know if they wanted to head to LA for one thing or another. Maybe next time I’ll use it for a trip to the beach or something

Get people on metro when they land in LA

So im in SF right now and you know what happened when I first land? Google wallet gives me a notification saying to create a Clipper card automaically. So I did. And then I put in money. All through Google wallet

I don't know if LA does this but if not, we should. It's a very easy way to outreach to new people or visitors to onboard to our metro system. Just wanted to share my experience and learnings

LAX APM Friday Update - Looks Like Full Testing Has Resumed

Title. Saw trainsets running at approximately five-minute intervals in both directions. I hope this means the clock has officially started for the testing phase.

Edit/Correction: This may not be considered “full” testing for purposes of passing inspection. Other commenters have noted that the system was running on two-minute intervals a couple of months ago.

¿ Adding life card to iphone ?

I already had tap app installed on my iPhone and works great

But now I have the life benefits card and wanted to add that one for the free rides and I like using my phone instead of digging into my wallet

Seem like you can only have one card account installed

¿ Do I need to un-install the first one ?
And then install the life program one ?
