Especially the "Debate" and "By region" sections. It reads like word vomit from foamers that have been adding and adding to the page as many fun facts as they can recall from their mind.
There's a lot of notes by other Wikipedia users that point out the various flaws of the article, but none have really been dealt with. There's a lot of fat that needs trimming out, in my opinion.
Metro's biggest issue is early/night frequencies dropping down to every 20 minutes. In San Diego, only one light rail line (Orange Line) drops down to every 30 minutes after 7PM. The Blue Line, Green Line, and Copper Line all run at a minimum of every 15 minutes except for the first couple and last couple of trips.
Every 15 minutes is what Metro generally defines as "high frequency". Surely, early and late commuters deserve better than low frequency service.
This is a thought experiment where we can't find additional funding, which is the most likely scenario. I think it's worth maybe decreasing some periods of time (such as mid-day) to every 11, or 12 minutes, though no worse, (maybe even reducing 8 minute frequencies a bit). The C Line's 13 minute frequencies are already causing enough headaches.
Sounds crazy, but that's why crazy ideas need feedback to make them less crazy.
Hi all. The South Bay has quite possibly one of the biggest gaps in frequent service for the whole county. Only a handful of bus lines run frequently, and most people live too far from them. For all the other bus lines serving the area, the service is so terrible that it actively deters most of us from riding it.
In the U.S., the majority of driving trips are short hops, less than 3 miles. A solid network of frequent buses would likely eliminate a good chunk of these driving trips, heavily reducing traffic. (For our purposes, we'll say a frequent bus is every 10 minutes or better).
My question to you is this: Think of a short hop driving trip that you usually do. We all have them. If there were a frequent bus that took you there, would you do it? (And give some details, if possible!)
I'll give a personal example. I live basically on Prairie Avenue. A trip to the Northgate Market on Prairie & Rosecrans will take me 42 minutes by transit, including a 17 minute walk, and 2 different bus trips. HOWEVER! If I happen to catch the rush-hour bus (Line 211) down Prairie, I get to shrink down that trip to 12 minutes!
While that's 250% faster, the awful schedule of that bus makes it infeasible to use at most hours. Instead, like most people, I choose to drive for 8-10 minutes on my own schedule. I really wish I could take that bus at most times of the day though!
I want to start an advocacy group for more frequent bus service in the South Bay, so any responses will help inform my initial proposals.
This is Line 211/215. It's rush-hour only, with 4 morning trips and 5 evening trips. It's also my nearest bus line. Seems like every time I think about taking it, there's just one canceled trip that causes a TWO HOUR AND TWENTY-FIVE MINUTE GAP between buses! Walking to Line 40 takes 17 minutes for me (best case scenario). Every trip up and down Prairie or Inglewood Avs. has an instant 20-30 minute penalty thanks to the fact that I'd have to travel out of the way to Hawthorne Blvd first. I'd be happy with a half-hourly bus but come on. These are some of the densest cities in the South Bay, yet all we get is this. We seem to focus so little on hidden potential corridors like this.
