Buy or rent in South Bay?
If you could barely afford a down payment and monthly mortgage for a SFH, would you pull the trigger in this market?
Many folks say that property values will only rise in the South Bay, so better to get in sooner, but these prices feel crazy (1.5M+) for what wouldn’t be a dream home for us. If rates were lower it would be more palatable since we could always plan to rent out a “starter” home down the road and have tenant pay the mortgage, but the math isn’t mathing now…
We keep falling back to renting ourselves and investing some of the difference, while continuing to build up the down payment treasure chest.
Bars Playing the Champions League Final
The final match is at 9 am this year, was wondering if there's any bars in the area that would show the game and soccer in general? I know there's Underground in Hermosa but was wondering if they'd open early for that.

Does anyone else remember the French Restaurant in the Candy Cane Lane Neighborhood in South Torrance? It had a freakin' ship in the backyard?
I'm talking about at the Robert Rd. entrance off of PCH
Hermosa Reptile
Anybody out there old enough to remember a place in Hermosa Beach called Hermosa Reptile? It was on PCH and it was an awesome reptile store. They had everything you could think of . Snakes, frogs, lizards, even caiman. I hung out there a lot as a kid and they let me go in the back where they had animals they would rent to the studios. They had a 25 foot python. Anyone remember that place?
Loose leaf tea
Where can I get quality or inexpensive (bulk?) loose leaf tea? I like em all: Chinese, Japanese, British, english tea etc. Im just tired of microplastics in tea bags.
This burnt-out 3-bedroom in Torrance sold for over $1 million. Welcome to California's housing market
latimes.comWhats your favorite thing to get from uncle bill's pancake house?
Ive never gone, but I'm joining someone for a brunch date!
Usually, I go omelettes when getting breakfast, but I've heard some great things about their pancakes, which I also tend to love. Yet, I've had plenty enough to where I can definitely form a opinion
Whats your go to order? And maybe fun things tk look at or do afterwards?
Aviation Townhomes/North Redondo?
Hello,
I am finally centering in on apartments and think I am honing in on Aviation Townhomes. I am moving from across the country so site unseen, though did a virtual tour.
Anyone have any experiences with these apartments and area? My only concern is the open parking near a busy street and vehicle/cat theft and curious how much of a problem that is for residents.
My other alternatives are other apartments with garage parking, but small buildings with no pool or shared communal areas to help with socializing/meeting friends versus South Redondo which seems like a nicer area, excellent beach access, but higher prices and my commute (which is mixed locations to South LA, Carson, Gardenia, and North East LA) likely would be much worse dealing with beach traffic.
Thank you very much.
Music Lessons
Hello! I’m a 23-year-old dude looking to learn how to play an instrument now that I’m off social media and have the time. I’m mostly interested in learning piano, but guitar is on my list as well. If you can teach me or know of any places around the Torrance/Lomita area that can and also provide the instrument, pls let me know!!!

Two handicapped spots gone from Veteran’s Park
These spots (548 and 549) used to be handicapped parking spots. Looks like they restriped and took them out? Now there’s only one in the whole lot.
In El Segundo with an afternoon/evening to kill...
Out here for work, we wrapped early, weather is gorgeous; where should I go/what should I do? I don't want to uber too far, would like to have drinks, probably some food, etc. I read Purple Orchid elsewhere, is that a good start?
Pizza spot with Full Liquor?
Is it just me or is there no place in So Bay to get a martini for mom 'n' dad while the kids crush a pepperoni pizza? I know Pizza Coast Highway was an option, and as much as I love the upgrade to Slice n Pint quality & service overall, I miss the booze...
The Carson City Council has approved a massive redevelopment of the Civic Center and is looking for developers.
dailybreeze.comOver 30s Skateboarding club at Redondo Pier Skatepark every Saturday @3pm
Every Saturday around 3pm we have a group of skateboarders who meet at Redondo Beach Pier Skatepark. Majority of us are over 30 but exceptions can be made. Skill levels range from beginner to pro. All are welcome.
After a good skate sesh, typically around 5pm we migrate over to Najas, a local bar on the pier, just steps away from the skatepark. We grab some food, throw in on a pitcher or two and play pool. There is usually some decent live music too.
I wanted to post to extend a personal welcome to anyone who is possibly interested. Maybe you skated as a kid and want to get back into it. Maybe you have always wanted to skate but never had friends to encourage you. Maybe (like most of us) you are getting fat and looking for a way to exercise and make friends.
Whatever your reason/excuse, I hope to see you at the skatepark. Come say hi and tell me you are from Reddit and I will make sure you are taken care of. My name is Jordan and I am the guy usually wearing a soccer jersey doing the weird old school tricks.
Exploring South Bay Without a Car?
Hello! I'm visiting the area (specifically Hermosa Beach) in July because I'm considering relocating from NYC.
I was thinking about renting a car but my Airbnb doesn't have on-site parking. How reliable is street parking especially closer to the beach like Hermosa Ave? Should I just book a different Airbnb with parking or could I get around with using Uber/Lyft everywhere?
I used to live in LA so I know that at least there you can get around using ride share apps/buses but it's not as convenient as having the freedom of having your own car and driving around (at least that was my experience).
Would love any thoughts/suggestions about this and also any ideas for activities or things I should check out to get a sense of what it would be like to live in the area!

Watch out along Esplanade! Be safe and stop at all stop signs. RBPD ticketing each and every bicyclist running stop signs. Watched like 20 cyclists get tickets.
