July 2026 Weekday Rail and BRT Ridership

Metro updated their monthly ridership data today.

Below is summary of the Year of Year changes of the average weekday boardings.

  • Total Rail is up 15.9% from 194,121 to 225,035 boardings
  • A is up 18.9% from 62,190 to 73,919 boardings
  • B/D are up 18.1% from 59,417 to 70,170 boardings
  • C is up 6.2% from 18,210 to 19,344 boardings
  • E is up 13.7% from 46,456 to 52,811 boardings
  • K is up 12.0% from 7,848 to 8,791 boardings
  • G is down 3.3% from 10,943 to 10,587 boardings
  • J is up 5.3% from 13,941 to 14,673 boardings.

Rail ridership grew quite a bit Year over Year. I attribute the growth to the low 2025 ridership baseline due to suppressed ridership on account of the ICE raids and boosted 2026 ridership due to the World Cup Games in July. The A line and B/D lines are also benefitting from the opening of their respective extensions.

The C line is not seeing the same growth as the other rail lines likely due to the prolonged maintenance interruptions that line is seeing. I wish Metro would be more transparent and provide an estimated timeline on the remaining work needed to get that line back into a good state of repair.

For the BRT lines the G line is still suffering from the route deviation on Oxnard due to the Van Nuys and Sepulveda Grade Separations. That line will likely not see any growth until the bridges are done and open. The J line on the other hand had decent growth in July,

Metro Email Newsletter D Line Construction Update

Just received a Metro email newsletter that had an update regarding Section 2 of the D Line.

> Metro D Line: Reaching Key Milestones This June

> The Metro D Line reached significant project milestones this June, bringing the expanded transit network closer to completion. Structural concrete placement was officially completed at the Century City Constellation station, allowing operations to move fully into 24-hour underground interior construction. Simultaneously, crews at the Wilshire/Beverly station wrapped up intensive work phases by decommissioning heavy equipment and advancing final street restorations along Wilshire Boulevard. While these finishing steps required temporary lane and sidewalk detours, they marked exciting, visible progress for the community. | Project Webpage

What stood out to me was the mention of 24 hour construction work at the Century City Station.

I don't know if that is good, bad or expected news.

Alissa Walker on Instagram: "All door boarding *and* open loop payments? 👀 @metrolosangeles"

It seems like open payment functionality appears to be working though I'm still waiting for Metro to make an official announcement.

June 2026 Rail Service Changes

I found the planned June services changes imbedded in the westside regional performance update.

Nothing significant other than what appears to be schedule padding on the A and K lines for on-time performance.

I know that many here prefer Transit and Apple Maps for transit trip planning but I feel it's still a good thing that Google shares this information as well.

I do note that Google is still using the Relocated 20/720 bus stops near La Brea, Fairfax and La Cienega so trips using the combination of the two are not working well yet
