Heads up for anyone who's needing to make connections. The B & D Lines for the next 4 hours are every 16 minutes instead of the usual 10.

30 years ago today on a Saturday, 13 July 1996, the Metro Rail Red Line Wilshire Branch was extended to Wilshire/Western. That's today's D Line. The Vermont and Hollywood Branch of the Red Line wouldn't open until 1999 & 2000 so this line stood on its own and carried the Red Line designation without confusing riders. In 2006 Metro designated the branch/stub as its own line with the Purple Line designation. Wilshire/Western stood as the terminus for nearly 30 years until 8 May 2026 with the D Line extension to Wilshire/La Cienega.

Heads up! B Line is running 20 minute headways this weekend.

13 years ago on this day CicLAvia was held on Wilshire Boulevard. Metro participated by showcasing the then-future Metro Purple Line Extension project. To put things in perspective, the project was revived 8 years ago from that time by the overturning of the Waxman ban, Measure R passed 5 years ago from that point infusing money into the project, but it will be over a year before the project broke ground. Note some of the developments that were under construction at the time and some buildings that no longer exists to make way for the D Line stations. Also a quirk of a red Wilshire/Western station pylon due to the fact that the Wilshire stub was considered as the Red Line branch prior to 2006.

The Metro E Line (Expo Line phase 2) extension to Santa Monica opened a decade ago today. Here's my video of the first eastbound ride with the general public.
