Metro Ambassador Gossip

Whenever I’m riding the B Line to work in the morning and happen to sit next to a group of Metro Ambassadors, they’re so open and loud about their personal conversations and workplace drama, that I feel like I know them personally by now without ever talking with them directly lol.😂

Testing out T-Mobile vs AT&T speed test (Altadena, CA)

I’m currently running T-Mobile (my main line) and AT&T (test drive SIM) as dual SIMs on my iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Currently running speed tests in different areas to test the networks and compare results.

With T-Mobile I reached a new high score which is surprising because as far back as 5-6 years ago, T-Mobile had a garbage network in Altadena. They’ve come a long way.

AT&T is actually running very well in this area too. This is the first time I’ve seen 1,000+ mbps speeds since I started testing out their network.

Vermont/Santa Monica work being done on the emergency swing gate.

I wonder if they’re getting ready to replace the ESG with one of the tall automatic gates that MacArthur Park and Allen station have?

Fastest download speeds T-Mobile I’ve seen in my area

Speed test conducted in Pasadena, CA (Colorado Blvd/ San Gabriel Blvd)

These are the fastest download speeds I’ve seen on T-Mobile in my area. Normally it peaks between 800-1100Mbps.

Upload speeds still have a lot to be desired, but not terrible.

Tipping the ticket counter person to enter a night club.

I was in San Diego over the weekend, and decided to go bar hopping, and check out some of the night clubs in the Gaslamp Quarter. One nightclub specifically (I can’t remember the name, I was a bit drunk at that point) upon paying the cover charge at the ticket counter, the employee flips over the handheld card reader for me to select a tip option.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the default tip selection was 20%, and you had to go the extra steps to press “other” and enter “$0.00”.

I may have been drunk, but not gullible!

But I’m guessing these types of places take advantage of people that are drunk enough to not pay attention to what they’re selecting when they’re paying with their card.

Mrs. Potato Head

Did Mrs. Potato Head have any actual dialogue in this new movie?I just watched Toy Story 5 and don’t recall any scenes where she had any spoken lines aside from background chatter, or maybe I missed it.

Kind of disappointing that they went as far as recasting her voice actress (since Estelle passed away) only for her to not really have any spoken lines.

Fare checked on the A Line

I was riding the A Line this morning, and a couple of Metro officers (not sure if they were Metro Police or TSO) hopped on the train at Del Mar and started conducting fare inspections as the train was moving.

They had a handheld device and were actually having people tap their TAP cards to verify the fares were valid.

What I’ve noticed was people that had a digital tap card on their phone (like myself) they didn’t have us tap on their devices, they just checked that we had a tap card loaded on our phones (similar to LAPDs inspections).

This is the first time in many years where I have:

  1. See them do fare inspections outside of LAPD jurisdiction.

  2. Where they actually had passengers tap their TAP cards on their device to actually verify you tapped prior to boarding while the train is moving.

I didn’t get to see anyone that tapped with their debit/credit card at the gate, so I’m still curious as to how they will go about verifying fares that way.

How will fare checks work for people now being able to tap with a debit/credit card directly at the fare gate?

I apologize if this question or topic has already been discussed in the past.

Since we’re now able to pay directly at the fare gate by tapping a debit or credit card, how will fare checks be conducted?

Commonly, LAPD will randomly enter the trains and do a TAP card inspection without actually checking the balance on the cards.

So now, if someone would have tapped their credit/debit card directly at the fare gate to enter, and LAPD randomly conducts a TAP card inspection, how would you prove to them that you tapped a debit/credit card if you don’t have a TAP card?

Got an attitude from a street vendor over not getting a tip.

I was spending an afternoon in Downtown Los Angeles over the weekend. From those of you that aren’t familiar with LA, it’s very common for many neighborhoods in the city to have street vendors on the sidewalks selling food (hot dogs, tacos, ice cream, etc).

I was feeling thirsty and there was a vendor selling flavored drinks made fresh fruit (traditionally Mexican drinks called Aguas Frescas).

I went ahead a purchased a strawberry drink and the price was $8 (which was already a ripoff) for a lukewarm drink. Unfortunately I had no cash on hand, so the lady pulled out a pocket sized tablet and charged my card the $8.

Then of course, the tip option came up and the options were ($1, $2, 3, Custom, or No Tip) obviously I went for the No Tip option as it is absurd to tip someone for simply filling me a cup of premade water. After the lady realized I left no tip, she snatched the device from me, and gave me my drink with an attitude and brushed me off.

I don’t understand why these businesses and vendors just don’t adjust their prices accordingly?!!! Like instead of asking for a $1 or $2 tip, just sell your product for $9 or $10!

These iPad/Touch screen POS devices are one of the worst things they’ve invented, as they automatically come programmed with the tip option, and have led many vendors and businesses owners to believe that they deserved to be tipped for doing the simplest task.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

I was heading home from work at Vermont/Santa Monica station, which has the taller fare gates.

I tapped my TAP card which is virtually installed on my Apple Wallet. When I tapped at the gate, I get a weird error message on the terminal and the gates do not open. I close/reload my Apple Wallet and attempt to tap again, but this time I get a message saying I already tapped. No matter how many times I tried to reload the app and re-tap, it would not allow me to enter the station. My train was about to arrive in 1 minute.

Behind me a Metro employee pushing a trash bin on wheels is approaching, and taps his card to enter the station. I had no choice but to “piggy back” behind him and rushed my way to the platform before I missed my train.

The Metro employee gave me a dirty look but didn’t say anything, he probably thought I was intentionally waiting for him to enter the station so I can skip on paying my fare

I ended up connecting to the A Line at 7th/Metro instead of Union Station since I had a feeling that Tap to Exit was going to give me problems if I tried exiting at Union.

I really need to switch to a physical Tap card.
