Where are we watching the World Cup tonight?

USA v. Belgium knockout round at 5pm. Been going to the watch parties at Grand Central Market, but don’t feel like making a trip into the city on a Monday at prime time.

Anywhere in NoHo, Burbank, Studio City, Glendale or elsewhere that have had good watch parties?

Some of our usual go-to places had great parties for the Mexico games but not many there for USA. Looking for a good crowd that’s into the game and drinks too

Trying not to get frustrated with Metrolink, but…

Metrolink has been advertising the FIFA Fan Zone at Union Station starting today and through the weekend, encouraging people to take the train “straight to the fun” and promising late night service on select trains.

What they fail to mention is that the late night service is really only for people going to SoFi Stadium to watch the game in person and not anyone attending the Fan Zones or the massive World Cup watch parties.

Tonight, the U.S. plays Turkey at 7 p.m., meaning the game will likely wrap up around 9-ish. The promised late night service doesn’t actually start until midnight and with recent service cuts, that means anyone who decided to take Metrolink to Union Station for this huge event will have to wait up to 3 hours before being able to get a return trip.

I know that Metrolink is in the middle of a budget crisis, and the fact they are doing a late night return service at all is good (even though it’s only on days where there’s a match at SoFi), but if you’re going to advertise and encourage people to use your service to go to the biggest fan event in the city, maybe have at least one additional option for the hundreds of people expected to attend the event.

As a longtime Metrolink user with more than 100 trips in the last year, I’m finding it really frustrating to continue to advocate and tell my friends how great it is and how it deserves our support when it’s entirely inconvenient for non-commuters (even before the service cuts.)

If you can only serve commuters, fine, but stop trying to sell it as true passenger rail that you can rely on for events when those services are what’s repeatedly cut.

They announced it this evening when I popped in to fill a growler.

Would kill for an LA Metro styled service schedule connecting Burbank to the rest of the city. Maybe with additional stations along the way?
