Market St from 7th to 2nd has such wasted potential

Everytime I walk around I keep thinking: the bones are there. The architecture can be beautiful, the street is already (mostly) car-free, the sidewalks are wide... yet it doesn't feel as alive as it should be. This corridor should be booming all day with pedestrians, outdoor dining, shopping, etc... It should be like Amsterdam's Leidsestraat or Istiklal Street in Istanbul. It should be an actual destination where locals and tourists both congregate, yet it only sees life when people are leaving their offices. It could be so much better.

I have 100% lost patience with entitled behavior - and I'm probably going to get physically hurt eventually.

Some people have theorized that something happened after Covid that made everyone forget how to act in public and be aware of their environment. I don't know if there are studies on this yet, but there should be, because the amount of entitled behavior I've witnessed not only in SF, but other major cities in the US I've traveled to, has increased exponentially.

Three things happened to me yesterday almost in sequence that just made me completely lose it, but it had been boiling for a while. I was getting off the N and this guy trying to enter decided to stand in the middle of the door. I yelled - very rudely - "MOVE!" and he acted all "WTF DUDE?!?" and wanted to start a fight as if I was the one in the wrong. There are nicer ways to handle this, but as I said, I've lost patience.

Later on, a girl on a scooter failed to yield to me on a crosswalk on Market and we got very close to each other. I yelled WTF ARE YOU DOING so loud that everyone looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I am. She pretended I didn't exist.

Moments later, I get on the bus and this woman was having the loudest speakerphone conversation. Like, so loud I couldn't even comprehend how anyone could think that was remotely acceptable. From the back, I yelled CAN YOU TURN OFF THAT SPEAKERPHONE PLEASE and people turned to look at me like I was yet another crazy on the bus. The lady simply said "if you want quiet why don't you go to the library?" and continued with her phone call.

I don't know guys, maybe I'm getting older. When you read this, it might seem like typical big urban city behavior, yet I can't help but feel a growing frustration and anger over the last few years over the insane lack of self-awareness and the breach of social contract.

If you're a person who likes to keep their electronics looking brand new even after years of use, do NOT get the Zenbook A16

The laptop looked amazing out of the box, but 3 months later it's developed strange marks on the chassis. One is a black spot that looks like a dirt mark but might be a scratch (no idea how this happened), the second most awful one is what looks like a wet spot growing around the ASUS ZENBOOK logo.

I don't know if this a natural expectation considering the Ceraluminum material, but now I live in constant anxiety to not make it worse - and it's definitely going to hurt my resale value.

The laptop performs amazing and I love pretty much everything about it EXCEPT I can't seem to keep it pristine. I used to have a Surface Pro 11 and it looked like new after 2 years. Not a single scratch or mark.

In SF for 9 days. Worth getting monthly membership?

I usually just buy a daily Muni pass. I've tried Bay Wheels in the past but it's just so expensive. I'm wondering if staying for 9 days would make it worth getting a monthly pass?

Trackpad on the Zenbook A16 doesn't click when I put weight on the chassis, such as my resting my elbow or placing the laptop on my stomach while lying down. Is this normal?

I assume it's because it's a lightweight laptop, but still, it seems crazy to me. I'm still on the return window.

Xenia (Xbox 360) emulator performing almost flawlessly on Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme (Zenbook A16), even under x64 emulation.

Games tested on Xenia Canary Mar 2026 version:

  • The Bourne Conspiracy: no issues so far.
  • Scene It: Bright Lights, Big Screen: no issues so far. Movie clips play normally,
  • Trivial Pursuit Live: no issues except for a very slight hiccup before each question.
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum: only issue is Batman's head and cape keeps flashing in and out, like a graphic glitch. Otherwise, game plays fine.
  • Splinter Cell Conviction: sadly loads everything but 3D graphics.

I used Resolve with a pen and it's changed the game for me.

I recently got a touchscreen laptop with stylus support and decided to try it out. It's so much better to adjust the wheels, move nodes around, and almost everything else. You can also assign shortcuts to the pen's buttons to easily undo/redo, for example. It's become almost essential for editing on the go. I don't know if you guys have tried it, but I loved it.

ASUS Hardware System Update 200.0.3.0 for the Zenbook A16

This new update I just got via Windows Update seems to have very slightly improved performance. For my use case, I'm seeing better performance on Adobe Premiere renders (6 seconds faster) along with smoother playback of GPU-intensive transitions (it used to slightly stutter on these). Also noticed snappier performance overall on DaVinci Resolve 21 when going between edit/color/media pages.

Although it's not a display driver update, for now it seems to be focused on GPU, so I imagine it would affect gaming as well.

Now THE BAD: The option to allocate RAM to VRAM seems to have completely vanished from My ASUS app. Not sure if this is a bug or not. The stutter watching 4K YouTube videos on Edge has not been fixed.
