Scrum Debate #51: Sound Alikes - Makoto Naegi vs. Nagito Komaeda

Long time no see, r/danganronpa

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? For those old veterans like me who have been around for years, it’s good to see you, and it’s good to be back. For many of you, this is probably the first time seeing a scrum debate contest. I’ll break everything down for you so we can get started.

Introducing Super New and Improved Scrum Debates NEO! (Still legally called Scrum Debates)

Scrum Debates are an ongoing discussion series where users may submit write-ups for their side of this topic’s debate. To participate, comment below with your write-up as to who you think is superior of the two options. While not necessary, we advise you to make your write-ups relative to both sides, as it could make yours stand out among the masses. Scrum Debates are broken down into three categories:

  1. Quantity of Write-Ups: Whichever character/idea has the most comments in favor of them gets 1 point
  2. Highest Upvoted Write-Up: Whichever write-up has the highest upvoted comment gets them 1 point towards their chosen side
  3. Highest Cumulative Upvote Count: Whichever side has the most upvotes totalled at the end of the scrum gets 1 point

For today’s scrum debate, we’re going to discuss something new yet sounds so familiar. It could be the same, or it could be different. That is up to you all to decide between Makoto Naegi vs Nagito Komaeda. We’re pinning our lucky students against one another to prove once and for all of five days who is the superior of the two. They don’t just share their talents with one another. They also share voice actors, belief systems, voice actors, and voice actors! It’s Ultimate Hopes all the way down. Before we start, we need to go over the rules that I totally didn’t copy and paste from the old scrums:

RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING OR YOUR COMMENT MAY BE REMOVED:
Scrum Debate is not a popularity contest; it's a writing competition. The comment section below is explicitly for thoughtful analysis. If you want examples or inspiration, check past scrums, SPOILER WARNING and the old character discussion threads.

  • Low-effort and zero-effort comments, like stating the character you're voting for with little to no elaboration, will be removed and not count towards the final tally. At least a paragraph of elaboration is expected for your stance. Comments that only argue against one side will not earn any points.
  • Top-level off-topic comments will be removed, and instead should be replies to the pinned message. Meta comments, such as "this is a rough match-up for [character]", belong here.
  • Replies to other comments don't need to follow these rules, but please do keep civil.

This scrum will run for about ~7 days. Afterwards, the winner of the scrum and the highest upvoted comment will be highlighted in the pinned posts for the following days. This post will be marked spoilers, so feel free to talk about any spoilers relevant to your write-up. If you would like to view the previous Scrum debates or view upcoming themes, please click here.

With that, I shall leave it up to the rest of you. Good luck and have fun writing,
The r/danganronpa mod team

Are you a left-side kind of scrum debater or a right-side scrum debater? Personally, I like facing left.
