Help I want to go home for a visit at the same time as my friends birthday
One of my best friend's birthdays is later next week, but I really want to go home for a visit. For context, I moved across the country for university and just graduated. I haven't been home in a year and had a rough semester. I'll only be home for about two weeks before I have to come back to start work.
I asked my friend how she would feel about celebrating this weekend instead so I could leave early, and she seemed a little upset. She said I should go home if I want, but I could tell she was hurt. Our mutual friend also said I should stay, since the birthday girl was planning a very small gathering, just me and two other people.
I love my friends and never want to let them down. But every day I find myself itching to go home, and at the same time I feel terrible about missing her birthday, especially knowing how much she wants me there. Any advice for an indecisive people pleaser that is terrified of letting her friends down?
