Geiger and Junkyard Joe

I just bought Geiger Deluxe 1 and 2 and while I did not even open the thing, I'm already considering buying other "unnamed universe" books.

Junkyard Joe caught my attention, I sampled some issues and the art seems solid. The writing, being Johns, is undoubtedly great I'm sure.

I know the premises of each book, Geiger being in a apocalyptic post-nuclear war future and Junkyard Joe about a present time military robot, but I wonder if these two books connect somehow? I doubt there is any crossover?

I also read about the Redcoat, but this one interested me less, and I'm starting to explore Rook:Exodus.

What are your opinions about these books? I know the books are still ongoing and Johns is still sort of modelling the unnamed universe, but how are you liking it so far? Do you recommend them?

Remember that time when Spidey knocked FF's door asking for a job?

Yep, time were rough even back then.

Is there any book you "avidly" avoid?

Weird question, but recently I found myself in this sort of equally weird situation.

There is this book, Just Imagine by Stan Lee, where, as the title suggest, Lee reimagines the DC Universe and redesigns its main characters.

The premise is good, but the execution isn't. Not gonna debate here my personal opinions on the book itself (read some issues and got totally not impressed), so I vowed to never buy it.

Then a couple of weeks ago in a bookstore I saw a copy on a shelf. I took it in my hands just out of curiosity and then I saw the price tag: from $75 for $20. Damn I started sweating. I didn't want it, I didn't even like what I read from it, but dang, $55 off is a hella good deal.

But no, I contained myself and put it back on the shelf. I didn't need it and I wouldn't waste $20 on something I don't even like.

Last week this cursed book crossed my path again: in a different bookstore I saw it on a "damaged books" section and again out of curiosity I took it out of the shelf. The dust jack was noticeable creased, but the price tag? From $75 for $14. Sheeeeeet... I didn't need it, I didn't like it, but heck, that's more than 60 bucks off!!!

I walked around the store holding it, internally screaming to myself to not buy it, and after a difficult battle in my head I put it back to the shelf and walk away from the store.

And now I fear that if I see it a third time at this price range I might not resist the deal and end up buying the damned thing. Even if it is a steal of a deal, another reason I avoid it is space constraints: I don't want to use precious space with a so mediocre book.

What about you guys? Does anyone else have this kind of weird situation, for some reason (other than money) urging to not buy a book? Which one(s)?

I know literally nothing about the character, but I'm looking to expand my horizons, so I would like to learn about her.

Is the omnibus by Paul Dini a good start point for a new reader?
