Advice for preventing and avoiding "Marvel Rubbing" on books?

Recently I've been rebagging and boarding some of my books and I've found that some of the ink/color has rubbed off the back cover and is now on the backing boards. On some of the books affected I've found noticeable damage so I'm looking to make sure I can best prevent this in the future.

Online I've found some ideas and was wondering if any of them have worked for others with the same issue.

  1. Removing the books from modern sized bag and board and instead use Silver-Age sized.
  2. Simply using a higher quality backing board. (I currently use BCW, but I keep seeing more praise for E Gerber.)

I rarely removed the books from their bags and boards and I make sure not to overpack my short boxes. What else could be causing the ink rub?

Is there a proper term for this in books? I've found it twice both in early 90s Marvel books. Is this a manufacturing defect?

The dots, incase the images aren't clear enough, are seemingly purple and red, leading me to believe that it was some kind of manufacturing defect with ink.
