Grimsgate - Dev 357

Hello all, as you know (or maybe don't) I am working on a Thief inspired game called Grimsgate: The Rot. Today I put the finishing touches on the AI and marked it as complete. Based on Sight, Sound, Light Exposure and much more. I worked on the enemy AI for the past 5 months and I am GLAD (for now) it's behind me so I can move forward with the demo levels and make it all doom n gloom (Pretty) haha. I am not sure if you have been following me BUT you can do so on my community here: https://gearworxprod.com/community its free to join, where you can have your voice heard, feedback and submit requests e.t.c And also follow along with the project manager's progress OR if you want you can join my discord here: https://discord.gg/nZGHNtXZpQ or both, either way I would love to chat and say hello! (Hint: the community page might get access at some point for a sandbox test level)

Anyway I shared a video showing some of the stuff for enemy AI, Still need to finalize the enemy animations and add some more, so he is not complete yet, but to do so I need to animate them in Maya which is super time consuming but alas this is a solid start. Of course I will tweak the AI settings more once the world comes to life so everything feels tight e.t.c Anyway I would love to hear your thoughts on this, is this a game you're looking forward to or . . . . ? There are no weapon audio or finalized impact reactions yet still need to finish the physics for that (Uggggggg)

Anyway thanks for reading and I would love to hear if you're excited to explore Grimsgate and Undercity?

Take care.

Grimsgame - Development Update

Grimsgate: The Rot - Development Update

Main Menu

A lot has been going on development wise for Grimsgate: The Rot As all systems are in place, I am in the polishing phase now before I put this into the actual levels for the Demo.

So what has been done since introducing myself?

The core of the game is done and all systems are in place and have been fully implemented. Took me a very long time to get where I am, but was afraid to share with you all here on Reddit so as I mentioned I was here but lurking in the shadows so to speak hahaha

However this week I put the final touches on the following systems:

  • Black Market Store
  • Fence
  • Grapple system (Finally got it stable, thank god!)
  • Lock picking HELL (Finally put this system to bed, I love how it feels, and functions)
  • Finished wiring the rest of the UI (Main menu and In Game) (Currently UGLY place holders but functional)
  • About 40+ minor bugs squashed. Still some troublesome ones there gnawing at my last nerve and brain cell.

I still have a fair bit of work but I do see the light through the trees where I can start to make the levels look pretty and get away from the nasty developer art finally hahaha

Over the course of the last year or so that I have been working on this, I have also developed tools to make my life better when I start layout the districts in which Corvin can explore and loot, but also so I can get a 1:1 matching ratio for the map marker system and "I am here marker" so its accurate real world scale, but also to build out roads, alleys and water ways.

District Builder

I also wanted to share a little video with you all so you can see some of these system in action. I pray you all enjoy!

Dev Test Systems.

Grimsgate Development Community

There is so much more I would love to share with you, but for now I am keeping it close to my chest. However I would like to invite you all to join my community here: https://gearworxprod.com/community Its 100% free to sign up, it a place where you and I can talk together (I am always active unless sleeping lol), you can share your input and actually have your voice heard! As a dev I feel it is crucial to listen to your potential customer base, doing so also helps shape the game even further. You will also have access there to updates as they happen as well as access to the Project management system, which I update as I go.

Anyway I think I have flapped enough. Would love to hear from you.

Take care and thanks for reading!

Grimsgate - in development

Hey all, I’m the solo dev at Gear Worx Productions. I finally joined the sub after lurking forever, and figured I should stop being a ghost and say what I’m working on.

The game is called Grimsgate: The Rot. It’s first-person stealth in the spirit of Thief, but it's own thing. I’m not remaking Garrett or trying to be “Thief but modern.” I just want something that scratches the same itch.

It’s still early. A lot of what I’m doing right now is the unsexy stuff: movement feel, AI reactions, getting sneaking to feel heavy and deliberate instead of like you’re on ice skates. First-person where you actually see your hands and tools, not a floating camera. Non-lethal matters. Light matters. If you blow your cover because you ran across a marble floor, that’s on you.

The vibe is darker, plague, quarantine, people scared and angry, rich folks walled off while everyone else rots. More dread than high fantasy. I’m keeping story details close to the chest for now, but if you’ve ever wanted to creep through somewhere you’re not supposed to be, with a torch in one hand and a blade in the other, you’re the audience I’m building for.

I’m posting here because I’d rather talk to people who play these games than guess what Thief fans actually want. Do you want detection to be brutal or forgiving? Does first-person with visible body help immersion or get in the way? What made you keep coming back to Thief after all these years? That kind of stuff is useful to me right now.

I run a small community where I share progress and ask questions, a place to weigh in if you want development to go a certain direction in real time with access to Development progress:

https://gearworxprod.com/community/

Free to join. I am always logged into the community on my site, its kind of like discord but tied into my project manager that you all can have limited access too 😃 Get inside of Grimsgate and help shape the game.

Happy to chat in the comments. I won’t dump plot or mission spoilers, but I’m fine talking about how the game plays and what I’m aiming for.

Cheers, and I hope to see some of you there. And of course from time to time I will post here to update you all but I do not want to detract from or spam this awesome community either, keeping r/Thief what its meant for the games we all love.

Take care and thanks for reading!
