Still in pain 6 weeks after open colon resection

Tomorrow will be 6 weeks and I'm still having a lot of pain on the upper right side of my incision. I figured I would be mostly better by now but it seems to be getting worse. Thought it might be a hernia but there's no sign of one. Feels like it's just deep, aching muscle pain rather than an organ. Every little walk , car ride, or time I shave and shower makes it worse. My actual colon seems to be functioning pretty well so it doesn't seem to have to do with that. I'm thinking I should just lay in bed and do nothing for a couple of days but kind of paranoid about bloodclots doing that. Did any of you guys have similar experiences with your surgery? Any advice other than talking to my doctor? I'll be seeing him on the 26th. This doesn't seem like an emergency. No fever or vomiting or anything like that. Just sick of being in pain and not being able to do anything.

Non alcoholic beer after colon resection?

I got my colon resection done almost 5 weeks ago. I've decided to quit drinking alcohol at least for the rest of the year to help this heal properly. I kind of miss the taste of beer and would like to try drinking some non alcoholic ones. The Guinness and Corona ones were pretty close to the real thing when I tried them in the past. And I figure they're not quite as carbonated as soda.Do you guys think it would be ok to try something like this at 5 weeks or should I wait till 8 or 12 or something? I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him but looking for some input here in the meantime.

Did anyone here have open surgery for their colon resection? Also just need to vent

Hey, I made a couple of posts here already and it seems like everyone got laparoscopic/ robotic surgery. They had to do mine open because I had a fistula and the robot was not available for a couple weeks. Just wondering what the recovery was like for any of you who did have the open surgery? I think I'm on day 18 and I'm not having much in the way of surgical pain anymore. Just having Tylenol here and there, haven't taken any opioids since I got out of the hospital. What I am dealing with is lots of gas , cramping and diarrhea. Can only eat small amounts of a few foods. Mostly just toast, applesauce, scrambled eggs and bananas. Too much food makes me nauseous but I haven't actually thrown up. I think it's just extreme gas. I know it's still really early on but it's driving me crazy because I already had the fistula for 3 months so I haven't really been able to eat since March. I lost 55 lbs so far. I also quit cigarettes, alcohol and weed last week of March. Happy about the cigarettes but I really miss the weed. I'm just depressed I can't eat anything with flavor for months and I'm stuck in the house because of the diarrhea. Wish I could just go to church or to the store or something. When did you guys start feeling better? When could you start eating real food again? A lot of places say 1 month but some people say months. When did the constant cramping and gas go away? When did the bowel movements start getting more solid and less frequent? And did you guys take Imodium so you could go out? Did you guys take protein drinks when you couldn't eat much? I'm going to ask my doctor some of these things but I don't see him again for over a month. I'm sorry for the long, rambling post. I'm just stressed and frustrated.

How long after resection should cramping and diarrhea get better?

Hi, I had open surgery to have my entire sigmoid colon removed 14 days ago. I'm starting to feel better as far as the surgical pain and being able to walk around goes but still having lots of painful cramping. My benzo seem to bring me a little relief from it but it's there more often then not. Lots of gas and spasms and when I have to go to it's very urgent. I've been eating a healthy, lite low residue diet. Mostly eggs, fish, toast and bananas. I'm dying to eat some real food as it's been months but obviously can't yet. I know it hasn't been that long but wondering how long these symptoms lasted for those of you who had the surgery? And did anything bring you relief from the pain and cramping. Normally I think marijuana would help with this but I'd like to run it by my surgeon first on the off chance it makes things worse.

How long after resection did you guys start using marijuana again?

I had a bad flare up which lead to a fistula last week of March/ first week of April. I quit alcohol, weed, cigarettes and eating anything enjoyable in April. At this point I've had the resection on July 6th. Sigmoid colon and the fistula removed. I still have a jp drain which is supposed to come out next week. I'm happy I quit cigarettes and alcohol but I really miss weed. I have plenty of different kinds here including just pure cbd. It never hurt my stomach in the past, generally helped me with pain and spasms. I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him next but I'd also like some opinions of people who have had the resection. Thanks

Is there any protection/ insurance if the post office loses my Neo Geo AES plus?

Hey, I wanted to buy the AES plus bundle because it's obviously a better deal than buying the stuff separately on Amazon. It's not that I don't trust Plaion themselves but I've had a lot of issues with USPS losing my stuff in the past , especially from overseas. Wouldn't really want to take that gamble on a higher ticket item like this. The website mentions some kind of insurance but I don't see any details about it and they haven't responded to my message yet. Just seeing if anyone here has info on it. Thanks

Did anyone's lactose intolerance get better after colon resection?

Hi I'm a 40 year old male who just got a colon resection from a surgeon who I trust and things have been going well so far. As far as I know I've always been lactose intolerant since my teens and continued to eat dairy anyway because it's delicious. When I was young and it was just IBS/ lactose intolerance it just gave me excess gas and diarrhea. No serious medical issues. Once I was older and had lots of diverticula it became more of a significant pain/ flare up kind of thing and I tried to avoid it more.

My friend had the same surgery 8 years ago and acted like he could eat dairy now with minimal problem. I certainly am not trying to eat anything stupid right now as the surgery was recent. Keeping things light, bland, low fiber etc. however I'd really like to know if someday I can eat cheese again and maybe occasional ice cream without serious medical issues. Don't mind some discomfort but obviously trying to avoid any real problems in the future. Anybody have any positive or negative experiences eating dairy weeks/ months after their surgery? Thanks

If I convert can I still privately pray the rosary and venerate some Catholic saints?

Hey , I posted here awhile ago and everyone seemed pretty helpful and welcoming. So I figured I'd come here for help again. I've been on the fence on whether or not I want to go down the path to convert from Catholic to Orthodox. It will probably take me awhile to make this decision as I suppose it should. I keep going over it in my mind.

There are things I like and dislike about both traditions but I do find myself leaning towards Orthodoxy. I generally agree with you guys on the Papal supremacy issue. I like the concept of theosis. I agree more with the Orthodox opinion on "original/ ancestral sin". I generally prefer the Divine liturgy to the Catholic mass. I feel drawn to the icons and the chanting. I like the feeling of being more connected with the way early Christians did things.

These are two of the main issues that are giving me second thoughts though. I am very attached to praying the rosary. It has given me much comfort in hard times. I would have no problem omitting the Fatima prayer but I don't see what would be heretical from an Orthodox perspective about saying Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. I have no problem saying Orthodox prayers too. I already do to some degree but I still want to pray the rosary. I also have an attachment to some of the Catholic saints especially Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Francis. I'm aware that none of this would be going on while at Orthodox church and I'm ok with that. But would it be ok to continue doing these things in my home if I become Orthodox? Any opinions would be appreciated.

YouTube rosary video recommendations?

Hi, I've been into praying the rosary along with people on YouTube. Sometimes I pray by myself but I like praying along with others. I've been too sick to go to church and most of my friends aren't Catholic so these YouTube videos work out well. My favorite is the Holy Land Rosary with Father Mitch Pacwa. I also sometimes watch the ones with Jonathan Roumie from the Chosen. Looking for other good videos or channels for the sake of variety. I'd prefer some where they pray slower and/or where they stop to talk a bit about the mysteries. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Dark, depressing reggae songs?

I know reggae music is known for being positive and uplifting but I'm going through some terrible things with my health and I want some dark, depressing songs. Black Uhuru have some good ones like Happiness, Rockstone and Emotional Slaughter. Could anyone recommend some more for me?
