I’ve always wondered if Mary Alice Young could’ve changed Eddie Orlofsky’s trajectory in Desperate Housewives had she lived longer. She always seemed more emotionally perceptive than everyone else on Wisteria Lane, so I feel like she may have recognized the warning signs much earlier and tried to intervene before things escalated.

At the same time, I think the point of Eddie’s storyline is that he was failed by everyone around him. He was abused, isolated, and desperate for affection, and no adult consistently stepped in to help him. Mary Alice maybe could’ve made a difference, but I don’t think the show meant for one person alone to be able to save him.
