For context, this ordeal began with my mistake and I know better now.
I own an LLC that I turned into an S-Corp back in 2023. For one reason or another, I believed that meant paying my taxes through the business (1120S) and not through me (1040). This led to me paying my 2024 and 2025 taxes ahead of time (quarterly) incorrectly.
Fast forward to early 2026 and I get a notice saying I owe for 2024 and that’s when my EA and I found the issue and where the money actually went. It turned out the IRS moved the 2024 payment over to my 2025 balance for my business account. We filed the return for the refund in February so I can turn right around and pay the 2024 and 2025 properly. In March, I received a letter in the mail to confirm some details and I promptly submitted it via the Document Upload Tool.
In April, I called the business specialty line and they confirmed they had received the form. I specifically remember the phrase “any day now” repeated to me when I asked for a timetable.
I waited another month and called this week. Now they’re saying it will take up to 120 days from when that additional form was submitted.
This is where I’m starting to worry because I’ve been sent letters by the IRS threatening seizures and levies if I don’t pay my 2024 individual taxes. That doesn’t bother me too much because I can pay small chunks at a time with our current profits which seems to reset the timer to send another letter. What does bother me is I’ve been accruing interest this entire time, and at this current juncture I feel like I have 0 recourse to stop the interest from continuing to pile up. The individual help line auto-terminates the call after 60ish minutes.
Is there anything else I can do? I’ve set up an appointment with my EA next week but I can’t help but think there’s something else I can do to stop all this. Thanks for reading and helping.
