Moved here from California and...
So I moved here from California in November, and I work at a home goods store. Not THE home goods, but one like it.
And I also wanna preface that I do enjoy Memphis. I had visited here a couples times over the year before moving here with my partner. She showed me the culture, affordability, and seasons of Memphis and I do love them.
However two things: the drivers here are terrible, and so many of the people here are just careless and slobs!
The amount of people that just don't care about merchandise, workers, or cleaning up after themselves is insane. People pulling out artwork and just leaving it on the floor, breaking things and not letting anyone know. Making huge messes and leaving it for others to clean up.
And don't get me wrong, I get it. In retail you're going to get at least a little bit. Californians aren't some paragons of cleanliness but damn, working for the same store in California and Arizona (for a little bit) was a HUGE difference. What's up with that Memphis?
And before anyone tried to chime in and be like "Oh well it's because X race, gender, etc." it's markedly not. It's a good blend of legitimately anyone that walks into this store. Let's do better yeah?? I always taught that you need to walk into a place and leave it as it was or better.
