Short Story — Doomed love affair with automaton

Short story fiction - Fantasy/Magic Realism

The story concerns youth who is visiting what I think is a distant relative's home. At the house where he stays is an exquisite female designed automaton dating from years back. I believe it is initially inert, but he finds a way to activate it. At a later scene, he examines the automaton more thoroughly, his prurience gets the better of him and he undresses it, with the automaton engaging with him in frottage (I don't think she was made to be entirely anatomically accurate.) They have additional encounters and the youth even dreams of the automaton, realized as an actual person in her historical era, and enjoying time with her at a restaurant.

The climax comes when the youth's engineering curiosity gets the better of him, and he attempts to investigate the mechanical function of the automaton, only to break something critical in its machinery. She is not completely broken, but she regards the youth coldly thereon after, and they never engage in anything passionate again.

Additional points:

  • Story was (or still is?) available in full HTML read - suspect it was first posted early 2000s, but might not reflect the original publishing date.

  • Certain this story was accomplished by an author of merit because I remember a YouTube amateur video that re-enacted the story without dialogue (silent movie style) by high school/college students. If someone can also trace this video, I'd be interested.

▲ 8 r/Rwanda

I'm based out of North America and interested in visiting Rwanda sometime this year for two weeks. I was considering making it a volunteer trip, and have seen some opportunities for short-term teaching experiences.

I'm wondering if e-Readers would be a viable gift for donation to any organizations focused on education. The models would be ones that allow for side loading books and don't require being forced under any bookstore ecosystem. Provided there's an Internet connected workstation, I could show how books can be searched and added through shadow libraries. I might even be able to side-load some books before arrival.

Rather than query aid organizations individually, does anyone know if there's a possible contact to liaise with to gauge whether there is interest in something like this?
