SSD intermittently disappears: no partitions in emergency shell, Windows boots only for seconds
Hi everyone,
I’m having a weird issue with my laptop Latitude 7490.. It has a Toshiba KSG60ZMV M.2 2280 SSD, and I’m using dual boot with Windows and Linux.
The problem started when I booted into my Windows partition. At first, everything seemed fine, but after using an application, the laptop completely froze. I tried booting into Windows again, and it gave me an error saying it couldn’t find the partition.
Then I tried booting into Linux, and I got dropped into the Secure Shell with a message like “FAILED TO MOUNT”. I ran several commands to check the SSD status, and one of the messages I saw said “SATA link down”.
After that, I exited the Secure Shell and was able to boot into my Linux partition. Linux seems to be working fine for now. I also removed and reinserted the Toshiba KSG60ZMV M.2 2280 SSD. However, when I tried booting into Windows again, it seemed fine for a few seconds, but then the same problem came back.
Right now I’m using Linux without issues, but I’m not sure if it’s safe to try booting into Windows again or if that could make things worse.
What would you recommend I do?
