The Jorō spider (Trichonephila clavata) is a large orb-weaving spider native to East Asia, now spreading in parts of the United States. It's known for building massive, golden-colored webs that are surprisingly strong and resilient. Its silk combines high tensile strength with elastidity, allowing the web to withstand wind and capture relatively large prey. Despite its intimidating size and bright markings, the Jorō spider is generally harmless to humans.
