Calling all Ghanaian Law Students & Policy Nerds: How do we actually enforce the 30% quota in Act 1121?
Hi everyone, I’m Covenant, a law student and a Fellow with Girls in Diplomacy.
For my Capstone project, I’m focusing on the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121).
The law is a huge win, but as we know, implementation is where the real battle lies.
I’ve created a "Legal Navigator" (an infographic toolkit) to help young women understand their rights under Section 21 (the 30% threshold) and Section 15 (protection from victimization).
I’d love your legal perspective on a few things for my project's "Analytical Rigor" section:
Do you think the current "30% by 2026" goal is realistic given our current political climate?
What legal "teeth" do you think are missing from the Act to ensure private institutions follow suit?
If you were a diplomat representing Ghana, how would you pitch this Act as a model for the West African sub-region?
I'll be presenting these insights at my Fellowship Showcase later this week. Looking forward to a robust debate!
