Newbie grower looking for thoughts
Hey y'all, newbie here.
I just grew my first batch of cubes. Ive learned so much through countless videos, reddit & shroomery threads, etc.
I was curious if anyone else uses tents and auto-humidifiers + FAE.
My current setup is a boomroom II from northspore, the humidifier, and an air intake/exhaust. The intake has a charcoal filter cone on top and the exhaust goes out of a window and has a filter as well.
The humidity sensor hangs off the top shelf. Kind of between the air intake and humidifier input.
For soil, Im using a CVG mixture 1:1 coco coir and vermiculite mixture with a 10% addition of gypsum.
Im playing with the settings for everything and trying to learn the best configuration. I understand this takes a lot of trial and error, but I was hoping to see if anyone had suggestions on what I should try.
My current setup Im noticing the mushrooms tend to grow on the edges if the bin. Some side pinning but mostly right on the top outer edge of the cake. From my understanding, its likely the rest of the cake isn't getting enough moisture and those edges collect it all. Which makes sense considering the bins are kind of on top of each other with a tiny amount of space.
My thoughts are that I should move the humidity sensors either towards the middle shelf for a more balanced reading or towards the bottom shelf for insurance that the humidity level reaches the bottom.
I originally had the air intake running for 5-10 mins every hour. From what I read, a lot of people only air the mushrooms about twice a day.
Im concerned the humidity sensor at the top may but making my humidifier kick off too quickly for the rest of the bins and that the FAE may be running too strong/too often and causing the cakes to evaporate faster.
Ive figured out i didnt use enough soil, im more concerned about settings, and FAE for the tent to try and automize the process.
(Yes I also realize my setup might be overkill.)
As Ive stated, Im a newbie and fully acknowledge that. I appreciate all input.
