Fine-Tuning an Environment - New and Improved(?)

Fine-Tuning an Environment - New and Improved(?)

A revised version of the Fancy Dress Party Environment resulting from all of the amazing feedback I received last time. The big difference is the addition of two new Passive features.

TAtOBAH - This one isn't strictly necessary to have written down, but I wanted to make it obvious what kind of event this will be. Also, I figured it could add some (hopefully fun) extra tension to the scenes using it if surrendering weapons/armour wasn't possible for a character. For example, in my own game, one of the PCs weapons eminates from a series of runes carved into their fingers. How are they supposed to hand that over to a guard?

BoE - PCs being PCs, there's a good chance that they will cause some sort of faux pas, and so setting them up with that knowledge in advance is again meant to add tension - especially for PCs who aren't used to attending events like this. I chose [4] for the countdown because I thought it gave smaller parties more chances to get away with screw ups, and larger parties can afford to have some of their members removed from the Environment and still operate effectively. I tried originally to tie the countdown to the specific number of PCs, but I couldn't get it to read well at all.

SJ - No changes from before. Most thought it was fine or even overtuned, so I didn't want to change it before testing it.

FS - Removed the Fear cost since the consequences can be avoided pretty cheaply. Tried to flesh it out a bit to offer options to the GM and players for how to play it out. It might be a bit too bloated now though. Also, changed it to give a reward to players who wanted to risk trying to shut down the preening jerk insulting them.

TD - No real change except in the templating to make it clearer that the GM can grab multiple PCs at once.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out. I'm really excited to try this out! I've still got at least a session or two before this Environment will see active duty, so if you see anything catastrophically wrong with it, please let me know.

Need Help Fine-Tuning an Environment

Hello,

I'm planning to inflict a social event on my players' characters, and I'd like some help making sure it's appropriate for Tier 3. Difficulty is easy enough, but it's harder for me to gauge the strength of abilities that don't have damage values. My thought was that the first two abilities would soften up the players before they engaged in direct (social) conflict with other adversaries present, and the third ability is designed to split the party at a key moment and is meant to be more open ended.

I like the flavour of the abilities, but I'd also like them to make an appropriate impact on the players. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Also, if the stat block doesn't read well, please let me know. I sometimes have trouble understanding when I've written something that's clear to me but not someone else)

Apologies if this is not appropriate to post (and I couldn't decide between 'Rant' or 'Meme' for the flair), but I just found this while looking for DH stuff on Amazon and nearly burst out laughing:

DAGGERHEART GAME GUIDE: The Ultimate Strategy Guide to Combat, Exploration, and Hidden Secrets

It's basically written as though DH is a CRPG, with tips for 'exploration' and 'bosses'. The sample of what's inside (like the 'plot') is even funnier to me. It's also written in a way that really talks up how DH is awesome and unique, which I appreciated.

I sent an email to Darrington Press about it. I don't know if they care about this kind of thing (or can really do anything about it), but I felt it was appropriate, since there's even the slimmest chance someone might spend money on this.

Anyway, I just thought it was really funny, if also rather infuriating.

I wonder if DH could even be made into a CRPG. I mean, the raw mechanics could certainly translate, but I don't know how "fiction first" could be programmed, or how the "GM" would decide how to handle spotlight cases in combat.
