Cozumel Fishing: What to Expect as Summer Turns Into Fall 🎣🤿
If you're visiting Cozumel in late summer or fall and thinking about getting out on the water, this is actually an interesting time of year to fish.
As we move out of the peak summer billfish season, there are still opportunities offshore, while bottom fishing and reef fishing for snapper, grouper and other species can be productive throughout the year. As fall progresses, we also start looking forward to species such as wahoo and tuna.
One thing I always tell visitors: don't get too caught up trying to target one exact species. Fishing is fishing, and conditions change from day to day. A good local captain will look at the weather, currents, water conditions and what's been happening recently and give you the best opportunity that day.
Cozumel is also a great place for families or groups where not everyone wants to spend the entire trip fishing. A private charter can combine fishing with reef snorkeling, or you can spend part of the day enjoying the water and some of Cozumel's beautiful marine areas.
Full disclosure: I'm Ricky with Cozumel Anglers. I've been providing fishing & snorkeling charters here for more than 25 years, so I'm happy to answer questions about fishing in Cozumel — seasons, techniques, what you might catch, charter lengths, fishing with kids, cruise-ship schedules, snorkeling combinations, etc.
You don't have to be booking with us. If you're planning a Cozumel trip and have a fishing question, ask away. 🎣🇲🇽
