So a friend asked me for something a couple of weeks ago and I said yes because it was a one-off. They thanked me, everything was fine. Now they are asking for the same thing again, like it is suddenly a regular thing. I told them I can not keep doing it and they got quiet. I feel like I was polite but maybe I should have offered an explanation or a compromise. The whole situation is really small but I keep wondering if I came off rude by just saying no without extra cushion. I do not want to be the person who always gives in, yet I also do not want to create weird tension over something simple.
