Made a "caboose"

So I've been trying to think of a fitting caboose for this wartime (or post war, maybe they're all coming home) army train I've been pieceing together out of cars and custom made 3d printed Sherman's.

Well I think I finally came up with an idea for a fitting end of train.

Modifying a static display model of a railway gun was probably not my smartest idea. But for 5 hours work and 30 bucks parts plus a little paint, we have our best chance to stop the Penn Central merger.

Kato GS4 part number question.

I'm trying to find the parts number to get replacements for the 3 idler gears inside the chassis on the Kato GS4, but none of the exploded diagrams actually list parts numbers. I was hoping someone here might know it?

Kato GS4 won't run in reverse while on track, but will if I lift train off the track.

So I got a new GS4 which is a real beauty. Runs forwards fine however in reverse it simply "ticks" like a fishing reel. It WILL run in reverse if I lift it off the track but that just leaves me more confused. Any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Requesting help from more experienced model railroaders.

I just today got this Broadway Limited Y6B in, brand new, and right out of the box it makes this sort of buzzing/grinding noise while running. None of my other engines have ever sounded like this, but looking up other people on YouTube who ran this engine SOME of them make this noise, while others are silent as I would expect. Because of this I have no idea if this is just how this locomotive sounds for some reason, or if it is something wrong with it.

Is this something you would return the engine for a replacement/refund for?

Now we can tell which way the train is going.

So I have been searching all over for awhile now for a lighted N scale caboose in a fitting type and era for my trains. It seems that the closest I could get was a Kato caboose in the wrong color with the wrong decals, but I decided to try my hand at doing some decals myself. Having seen that as semi successful I got a bit carried away on the lighting details...

Does anyone know how to remove the shell from a Broadway Limited S2? Specifically the Paragon 4 model.

I just purchased one second hand and it seems the gasket around the smoke unit "cup" isn't properly seated inside.

The dream came alive~

Well following on from my post alittle while ago here, that "bad idea" finally became a wonderful dream. I used to have 2 money and no train, now I have no money and two train, but boy are they gorgeous.

The Bachmann Hudson unfortunately had to be returned due to issues, but in replacement is a NYC (Broadway Limited) Pacific standing in for her missing half sister. Somehow I think once the PRR finishes loading passengers she isn't going to have quite as much of a race on her hands as usual.

As always, brought to you live from my kitchen floor.

Englewood Union Station and South Chicago.

Okay so, following on to my last two posts, my bad ideas have compounded.

I have been doing ALOT of research on the semi famous Englewood Station in Chicago. This all started when researching what I could run with my T1 and Broadway limited set (see previous post) and I learned that not only did Pennsy have a competitor in NYC, but they used the same small station outside of Chicago, and not only utilized it but specifically ran timetables mirroring each other to provide maximum competition, frequently even racing while leaving the station! Like this 1945 footage shows

As I continued my research on the subject I found not only that, but the station also shared a linkage with Rock Island RR, and a trolley system which would drop passengers off out front of the station (on a lower level).

ADDED to all that is the Chicago 1948/1949 Railroad Fair, which saw trains and cars from as far as Union Pacific and as long ago as re-enactments of the Transcontinental Ceremony, allowing me to pretty "historically" run practically any engine I get my hands on for this "Last Great Railroad Fair"

And so I present my MS Paint track layout, with Englewood in the crossroads, Rock Island lines to the south, (yet to be filled out) PRR's 55th Street yard with roundhouse to the north, the NYC Yard East of Englewood with engine workshops in the middle along with the famous parallel NYC/PRR lines where the Broadway and 20th raced, and a far loop to the right with mountains representing the long run into Pennsylvania/New York that the two trains took to NYC.

The little Green Barbell is the Chicago tram system, purple are bridges, and the black shot through the mountain is a tunnel.

This is definitely a pipe dream and would probably require a house with a basement lol, but I wanted to share with you all this far off goal and all the brainwork I put into bringing it as close to reality as I currently can, considering I have been able to find anyone else online modeling this historically important (and really freaking cool) part of railroading past.

My first model railroad layout, and I'm already hooked.

It ain't much but it's honest work but it's a start! My kitchen floor, a steam loco, and some passenger cars. What more can I really ask for.

The lights I installed really do help pull this whole thing together into something magic, still can't believe something this small can have lights and sounds.

Question about replacing DCC speaker in a BLI N scale loco.

Hello, I just recently got into this hobby maybe a couple weeks ago, and my first engine purchase was a Broadway Limited PRR T1. It's really cool and I am so far really happy with it, however the sound is abit kind of...tin can like. I looked online for some guides and things, and I purchased a sugar cube speaker that came with an audio plug already wired to it, thinking I could perhaps skip the soldering step as I have never done that before, and learning two new hobbies at once seems like a poor choice for my ability to learn or be successful at either. (not to mention my wallet).

However, after getting the tender off the shell and the decoder unscrewed and the existing speaker removed, I have come to realize to my disappointment that there is in fact no existing audio plug, just the single decoder plug.

With all that preface out of the way, my question was if I can simply splice the existing decoder wires to the existing speaker wires somehow? or if I am basically out of luck without being able to solder the existing wires to a speaker?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
