Window sound proofing
Hey all,
I live in an apartment in Amsterdam and the street noise is really getting to me. My windows face a busy street and I hear traffic, honking and people talking pretty much constantly.
I've noticed visible gaps around the windows, both between the window and the frame, and possibly between the frame and the wall. I can feel a draught, so I'm guessing a lot of the noise is leaking straight through those gaps.
Some details:
- 2 windows, currently double glazing
- Not a monument/listed building
A few questions:
- For the gaps, is this a simple weatherstripping/sealing job I could DIY, or worth getting a pro?
- Is it worth upgrading to acoustic/laminated glass?
- Anyone have contractors in Amsterdam they'd actually recommend for gap sealing and/or acoustic glazing? Good or bad experiences both welcome.
Any tips or company names would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks!
