swiss miles & more gold plus - sanity check
hi all,
throwaway for privacy. I have been looking at the miles&more gold plus card package and was hoping for some advice from holders / folks in similar situations as myself. I have already looked in this and other subreddits but haven't found advice on a similar use case.
my situation is as follows:
- I am what I would consider a pretty average spender (after rent/health insurance, about 700 a month depending on circumstances)
- I am a relatively frequent flier (1-2 roundtrips / month, sometimes more) to other european countries, both work and personal, in economy
- I almost always fly Swiss (or other star alliance carriers) and my work trips are comped
- I am currently a miles & more member, but not quite on track to make frequent flyer by eoy (work travel ramped up recently with new role)
- however, with the current 30000 mile bonus signing up to gold cards, i could convert 25000 miles into points which by my calculations should allow me to reach frequent flier by eoy.
- I particularly value frequent flier status for the luggage flexibility, free business lounge access, and general ease around travel, because of some health issues (plus saving on airport food!)
I was looking at this offer package, which seems to also include 'a flight voucher in the equivalent of the annual fee', with a discounted fee of 110 in year one and a full fee of 300 in year 2. if that is the case, it seems that the card would literally pay for itself (I can use the voucher to pay for one of my personal flights), allow me to lock in frequent flier status for 2027, and then all the rest (collecting miles, extra discounts) as the cherry on top.
am I missing something? does this make sense to the financial hive mind? and can anyone confirm that I have understood correctly how these cards work?
thank you in advance!
