How to grow out my buzzcut?
I really struggle to communicate with a barber / hairdresser, I’ve moved around to different ones for years; I don’t go to cheap ones, but I have no idea what any of the phrases / terms actually mean, or how to get across what I envision, so I know the problem is me as I don’t end up with what I want most of the time. 3 weeks ago I got a buzz cut (first time since covid) with a new barber - “5 on top and a medium zero fade on the back and sides” those were my exact words, I did it to start fresh and grow it back out. Yesterday I got the sides tidied up by the same new barber, I asked for a “zero medium fade on the back and sides”, we spoke a bit about future cuts and the barber said he was “squaring it off” (whatever that means). However, I really didn’t like it when I got home (had a bit of a meltdown) and decided to shave the top down to a 6 by myself the next day as it was not sitting right. I have attached a pic after the cut my barber did, I feel like the issue is that it was taken too short and too high on the top side / corners, ideally I want it short and sharp (almost to skin) around and just above the ears, but leaving more behind towards the top sides, so the top has support when growing back out, and I like having a bit of contrast on the sides, but I don’t want it being really short too high on the sides then going straight into the top being too long as it doesn’t seem to sit right, I don’t know what to say? Im also worried about coming across as criticising him? A few years ago I’d ask for a “medium fade” and I’d get exactly what I want from different barbers, now I ask for a “medium fade” and it feels like the sides is cut all one length and nothing gradual to the top, as if the meaning of the phrase has changed. I am back at square one (quite literally I’m almost bald) and I just want it to grow out nice
