[hobby] Indie Game Project Looking for Dialogue Writer for Cozy Fantasy Sewing Game

[Hobby / RevShare Later] Looking for Dialogue Writer for Cozy Fantasy Sewing Game

Hey everyone, I’m currently directing and designing an indie game project and we’re looking for a writer to help with dialogue, character interactions, and general scene writing.

This is currently an unpaid hobby project. If the game eventually releases on Steam and generates revenue, the plan is to move into a rev-share model for active contributors. However, anyone joining should approach this primarily as a passion project, portfolio opportunity, and collaborative experience.

The game is a cozy sewing and fashion game inspired by classic loop-based games like Papa’s Pizzeria, Jacksmith, and older dress-up games, but mixed with hidden fantasy and relationship-driven storytelling. Players run a sewing business where they create outfits step-by-step through mini games while interacting with both human and magical clients.

We already have: Unity devs, multiple artists, a musician/sound designer, active gameplay systems and a working prototype, a fairly developed GDD and wip character cast

We are specifically looking for someone who:

  • Is a native English speaker
  • Enjoys writing natural dialogue and character chemistry
  • Can give characters distinct voices and personalities
  • Likes cozy fantasy, slice-of-life, mystery, or character-driven stories
  • Is comfortable collaborating with a small indie team

Most of the writing would involve:

  • Character conversations
  • Customer order dialogue
  • Friendship events
  • Reactions to outfits
  • Short story scenes
  • Ambient flavor dialogue

To give an idea of the type of characters and tone we’re going for:

One character, Casey Webbing, is a charming realtor secretly hiding the fact that he is the Moth Man and the game’s antagonist. He acts calm, helpful, and trustworthy on the surface, while quietly manipulating situations behind the scenes for personal gain.

Another character, Anastasia, is a shy but sweet fae princess who was once close friends with the player’s grandmother. As the player grows closer to her, she slowly introduces them to the hidden magical side of the city and encourages them to uncover the truth behind a mysterious pair of glasses.

We also have characters like Riv, an expressive slime shifter obsessed with alternative fashion and self-expression, and Havana, a chaotic fire sprite whose emotions literally explode into sparks and flames when excited or nervous.

The dialogue style we’re aiming for is:

  • Character-driven
  • Natural and conversational
  • Emotionally warm with occasional tension
  • Sometimes humorous or awkward
  • Distinct voices for each character

The project is long-term (at lease a year)and low-pressure, but we do expect consistent communication and occasional progress over time.

If interested, feel free to comment or DM with:

* Writing samples (if available)

* Your experience level

* Discord username

Thanks for reading.

TL;DR: Indie team of 6 making a 2D cozy sewing game. We already have a solid foundation in place, game dev doc and a lead programmer developer is actively working in Unity, The core gameplay loop and systems are defined in the GDD, and 1 of the mini-games has already been roughly made. We are looking to expand with a second programer familiar with Unity and C#. Project is unpaid (rev-share later if successful). Already in development. Low pressure, steady weekly progress expected.

Hey everyone, I’m the director and game designer of a ongoing Indie game project. The game is a 2D cozy sewing and fashion game inspired by classic loop-based titles like Papa’s Pizzeria, Jacksmith, and older dress-up games, but expanded with deeper mechanics and progression. Instead of simply selecting outfits, players create them step-by-step through an interactive pipeline. They begin by choosing fabrics, including type, color, and pattern, then move through a series of skill-based mini-games where they cut patterns, align and pin fabric pieces, and sew garments together with timing and precision as the goal. We are looking for a few more collaborators to join the team.

Currently we are a team of 6:

1 (Me) team lead

3 artists(all working on different elements of the game character design, backgrounds, ect)

1 programmer

1 music/sound person

At this stage, we have a lead dev, so if interested in programming you would be working under them for this project. We are primarily looking for additional programmers with Unity and C# experience to help implement upcoming systems such as mini games, mechanics, as well as general gameplay flow and UI.

We already have a solid foundation in place, game dev doc and our lead developer is actively working in Unity, The core gameplay loop and systems are defined in the GDD, and a pattern cutting mini-game has already been roughly made.

This is not just an idea phase project; we are actively building and expanding.

This is intended to be a long-term, very low-pressure project, but we do expect consistent contributions, even if small, with some visible progress made by the end of each week.

We are looking for people who are interested in cozy or simulation-style games, are communicative and reliable, and are open to collaboration and creative input. This is best suited for those who are comfortable contributing to a long-term project with a relaxed pace, while still maintaining a baseline level of consistency. This project will be at least 1.5 years in the making If not more. We want to complete the game with about two hours of gameplay and add DLC in the future if possible.

To be clear, this is not a paid position and there are no guarantees of profit. This project is best approached as portfolio work, experience, and an opportunity to collaborate on a unique concept with a small team.

If the project reaches a point where we are able to release on Steam or generate revenue, the plan is to transition into a rev-share model. Any income the game makes would be distributed among active contributors based on their level of involvement and contributions to the project. That said, there are no guarantees of profit, and everyone joining should approach this as a hobby or portfolio project first. The rev-share is intended as a fair way to reward the team if the project succeeds, not as a promise of future payment.

If you are interested, feel free to comment or send a message with what you do, any portfolio or previous work if available, and your experience level. I’m happy to share more details, documentation, and current progress.
