So this happened a few months ago now, and honestly looking back on it feels so ridiculous that I can finally laugh about it 😭. At the time though, it was genuinely stressful and confusing. A few close friends kept telling me I should post this story somewhere because they said his mom sounded completely insane, so here I am.
I met this guy online and we started talking every day. At first he seemed really sweet, funny, and easy to talk to. After about a week we decided we wanted to meet in person. Neither of us had a license at the time, which already made things difficult. He lived around 15 minutes away by car, and originally he was supposed to come meet me near where I lived.
Everything was planned out until literally last minute when his mom suddenly told him he wasn’t allowed to go anymore. No explanation, just “you’re not going.” I thought it was weird because we were both old enough to make our own choices, but whatever. Since I still wanted to meet him, I ended up travelling over to his area instead.
When we finally met, things actually went really well. We got along instantly and started dating not long after. The problem was his mom.
Apparently he was “too nervous” to properly tell her he had a girlfriend, so instead he just showed her a random picture of me and hoped for the best 💀. According to him, she barely reacted at first, but after that she started acting really strange every single time I was mentioned.
Whenever we were on FaceTime or a call, he would be like, “Oh say hi to my mom,” and she would literally refuse 😭. She would either stare at the phone awkwardly or just walk away without saying anything. At first I tried not to take it personally because maybe she was shy or protective, but it quickly became obvious she just didn’t like me for absolutely no reason.
The weirdest part was that she had never actually had a real conversation with me. She had built this entire opinion of me based off one picture and the fact her son had a girlfriend.
After about three weeks of dating, everything completely exploded. He messaged me acting really stressed out and eventually admitted his mom had basically given him an ultimatum. She told him if he didn’t leave me, she would kick him out of the house.
I genuinely thought he was joking at first because who says that over a teenage relationship??? But no, she was fully serious.
And the funniest part? I had barely even interacted with this woman 😭. I wasn’t rude to her, never caused drama, never even stepped foot inside their house. She just decided she hated me from day one for reasons I still don’t understand.
In the end he ended things because he didn’t want problems at home, which honestly I understood, but the entire situation was so dramatic for no reason. Looking back now, I think I dodged a massive bullet because I cannot imagine dealing with that long term 💀.
Safe to say I’m a lot happier now and my friends still joke that I lost a relationship to an overprotective mom with a personal vendetta against me 🤣🙂
