Walking from Freemont St to the Arts District: Is There a Safe Route/Times?

Google Maps shows a 1.2 mile walk down S Casino Center Blvd from the Nugget to the heart of the Arts District. Fortunately that is an easily walk-able distance for me if its not too hot.

It looks like there isn't much as you head south until you hit Charleston which appears to be the de facto northern border of the Arts District

How safe is this walk? During the day? How about at night? Or is this an automatic Uber/Lift/taxi ride?

If walking is OK, is 1st St, S Casino Center Blvd, 3rd St, 4th St, or Las Vegas Blvd N the better route to take?

Thanks!
