Hello! I am about to graduate Northern Illinois University in the next few weeks and I just wanted some advice on clinical Phd or Psyd programs for psychology.
I already talked to multiple Phd students here and they gave me some really good advice, i’m just trying to expand on some stuff so I can be as prepared as possible when i submit my first round of applications this coming fall. I want super honest advice on peoples experiences, as well as what my chances may be to get into a program. Ik that some acceptance rates are as little as 1%, which is definitely terrifying. I am also considering a phd program in criminology, as crime and mental states are a huge research interest of mine. While I am still on the fence, here are my credentials thus far from my 4 years in undergrad:
1 years experience in a psychology research lab
1 semesters experience in a criminology lab
1 independent study
3 research presentations (small and based at NIU)
3 honors societies
3.78 GPA
a couple of academic awards
Major: Psychology Minors: Sociology, Criminology
I’m planning on finding a job in research after I graduate, I’m just looking for more advice on the steps I should take next to get me the best chance at acceptance!
