Follow-up question: converting a USB-powered device to battery powered

Follow-up question: converting a USB-powered device to battery powered

Thank you guys for the quick answer before.

I cut the end off the USB cable, and I see 5 wires inside.

It seems like not all of these are for transferring power, so I don’t think they’re all necessary for my purposes. But the battery pack obviously just has two wires. Should I just connect red to red, and black to black?

Converting a USB powered device to battery powered, looking for advice

Basically, I’m making a prop for a play, which uses one of those LED strips you can find in department stores for atmo lighting. To make it portable, I have a battery pack I’d like to remove the USB plug here, and attach a battery pack that can be carried in a pocket.

Before I start cutting up my cables, can anyone tell me about this plastic nodule on the cord? Is it important that I cut before or after this to make it work as intended?

Thoughts on this cosplay belt?

You might recognize the character from Witch Hat Atelier. I’ve wanted to make a cosplay outfit for the character, and his belt…bugs me.

Obviously, it’s easy to write off its design as artistic, and decide that it’s not meant to be made into a real garment. But I’m stubborn, and I want to try.

A lot of attempts appear to just make an elastic belt, where there’s no real closure, and the discs there are just attached to the belt. But is there any ideas of how it could be turned into a functional belt instead? Perhaps turning the discs into buckles, or some other kind of hardware? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I wanted to see if I could grow my hair out after a breakup a few years ago. Now it’s at a length I imagined it being, but I’m not sure if I want to keep it anymore.

Can I get some outside takes?
