Windows PC fails to boot, drive shows as RAW – possible disk failure?
Hello,
I’m looking for help confirming a diagnosis regarding a persistent startup issue on my Windows PC.
Problem description:
Most of the time, the system fails to boot.
After several forced restarts, it occasionally starts, but the issue keeps returning.
Troubleshooting already attempted (from Windows Recovery Environment – Command Prompt):
sfc /scannow → does not complete or fails
DISM → returns error 0x80310000
chkdsk → reports:
“The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.”
Current hypothesis:
Based on advice I received, it was suggested that:
The storage drive (SSD or HDD) may be failing
The RAW file system could explain the inconsistent boot behavior
Windows repair tools are unable to fix this type of issue
Replacing the drive may be the only reliable solution
My questions:
Does this diagnosis seem correct based on the symptoms?
Is there anything else I should check or try before replacing the drive?
Thanks in advance for any help.
